Hi everyone! I'm hoping that you can help ease my nervousness! I'm just over 4 weeks out from having the surgery. Due to vomiting I ended up in the hospital for 3 days. Since then I've noticed that I feel like I'm choking & my doctor is wanting to do a EGD to help with that.

Have any of you all had to have that done? If so how were the results?

After all of the last issues that I had I'm just somewhat anxious about going under again.

I am having surgery on Tuesday the 14th, but I had to have the EGD and 'pass' before I could have surgery. The place I went did not use anesthesia, they used a sedative instead. The doctor walked in and said, hi remember me, I said yes then asked him if he just gave me the sedative, he said yep, next thing I knew I would being wheeled back to the recovery area.

It was about 5-10 min long. I felt fine afterward, just really thursty. I was scared too. Good luck!

I was terribly nervous about the EGD and it was required by my surgeon before surgery. In all honesty, the worst part was getting the I.V. Once they give you the "happy juice" you don't remember anything and I woke up and went home within an hour. My throat felt a little raw, but it really wasn't a big deal at all. You've already done the hard part, you'll be fine!

I agree with the post above me. I was SOOOOOOOOO nervouse about getting the EGD done. OMG, you have no idea. But, it wasn't bad at all. The worst part is the IV... especially for me since my veins are tiny. I will say I had a pretty bad sore throat for about 2 days after. That was my only issue. Good luck! You'll be fine :) ~!!

Thank you all so much!!! I'm so nervous but you did make me feel better :-D

I admit I'm most nervous about the IV because like you all I have bad veins. I'm just really anxious to see what they find out & be able to swallow normal again.

I just had an endoscopy on Monday and they dilated 2 areas of my esophagus- Nothing related to sleeve or surgery- I have had 1 about eveyr 5-6 years since my teens. It is not bad- you are knocked out and afterwards you only have a sore scratchy throat for a day or so- just make sure that if your surgeon doctor is not the one doing it that the doctor knows you had a sleeve so that a) they dont inflate too much air and B) go down to far into the pouch/sleeve. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
