TracyLynn 30 Posted August 9, 2012 I know to weigh myself in the morning, but how often should I get on the scale? What about measuring? Basically I know this is done with the flexible tape measurer, but where do I put it to take measurements and how often should I do this? I plan on taking pictures of my progress too. How often should someone take pictures? I want to do all of these things to keep myself on track, and to remember that I don't want to go back, but I don't want to do these things too often and discourage myself. Any ideas? Anything working well for you? Anything else I missed? On a side note, I have always heard that muscle weighs more than fat, is that true? If so, are measurements and how I feel more important than actual weight? Thanks so much!
UK Cathy 977 Posted August 9, 2012 I measure myself weekly(same day) and I measure: bust, waist, hips, left thigh, left upper arm and neck. you may also want to add calf and wrist. Some people measure right side too (because I am right handed I found this too akward). 4 months out and a total of 30" lost
Ljp 157 Posted August 9, 2012 I meaured before surgery & 3wks later. Glad i did, scale wasnt moving much but i lost 13.5 inches. I meaured ea thigh (in the middle), ea arm, all the way around under my arms, over breast, & waist. Some say to weigh weekly, some every two weeks....so your preference. If you there is an app calld: myfitness pal tht is awesome for keeping track of your weight, calories, Protein, carbs & so forth. Really has helped me a lot. PdxMan 4,292 Posted August 9, 2012 I weigh once a month. Early on, I weighed daily but knew I was going to drive myself crazy. The post that drove me to this was from a girl who said, "I just weighed myself this afternoon and I gained .3 pounds from this morning! What am I doing wrong? I knew I would fail at this!" I was just like, "Woa ... I do not want to turn into that person". So, once a month. I never saw stalls (even though I'm sure I had them) and was always encouraged by what the scale said. I knew down deep with running a calorie deficit, I would lose weight. As far as measuring, you don't need EXACT, specific locations, just be consistent. Upper arms, neck, chest, waist, hips, thighs ought to do. I took pictures every Thursday night in my underwear. A front, side and back. It is wild to look at the progression. As far as your goal weight, yes, I think it is more important to pay attention to how you look and feel versus what the scale says. The scale measures weight, not fat. I wanted to lose fat ... and I did. 1 TracyLynn reacted to this
TracyLynn 30 Posted August 9, 2012 Thank you all. Now I know where to measure. I too can see myself becoming obsessed with the numbers and pounds, so I will figure out specific days/dates to measure and weigh.
Kiki Von Moonshine 53 Posted August 9, 2012 Like someone said, once a week is good enough. Yes muscle weighs more than fat. I'd measure my chest, waist, and hips. Some people measure the neck, thigh, calf, upper arm, and wrist.

O.T.R. sleever 3,386 Posted August 9, 2012 If you hang around there is a thread called "Super Saturday Weigh In". Several of us on here weigh in every Saturday morning and post our results. It's a great way to keep it consistent, and it's nice to see the same ppl every week. I think pics at 1mo,3mo,6mo,and then every 6 mo after would be great And yes, measurements is a much more accurate way to track fat loss. 2 TracyLynn and ShortSleeveoftheSouth reacted to this
