High Energy Foods?

Recommended Posts

I'm almost five months out and one of the issues I am constantly struggling with is energy. You would think with all the weight I lost that this wouldn't be an issue. Oh well. :)

Currently I'm eating between 900-1000 calories a day with a minimum of 60g of Protein. I am taking all of my Vitamins as well but nothing seems to help with the energy levels. I will admit I'm not exercising but part of the issue is that I can barely walk up a flight of stairs or even 100 feet without becoming incredibly exhausted. As I'm a teacher this makes my days very, very rough and all I want to do when I get home is take a nap. I did think about increasing my food intake but it's very difficult for me to get past the 1,000 calorie mark with food.

I was just wondering if anybody could recommend some high energy foods. I would like to start getting active but I need a bit of a boost. I am including some fruits in my diet, mainly grapes, watermelon, pears, and applesauce. No veggies though as my stomach really doesn't like them. I have tried Peanut Butter and some nuts but they are a hit and miss with my stomach depending on the day. I also eat some "good" carbs as well.

Oh, I did cut out caffeine so that's not an option.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm only 10 wks post op so not sure if my advice will help. However, I have noticed very low energy esp after a workout.

#1 - I would recommend getting labs done to see if you are low in a Vitamin. Even if taking Vitamins you could still be low in one. I have a tendency to have low D (pre-op). D and B12 are both add energy.

#2 - When I workout ( started 6 wks ago) I was getting "EXHAUSTED" next day and what seems to be working is to up my Protein / Water. I added a 30gr Protein shake pre/post workout... I drink 1/2 b4 and 1/2 after and then next day I am ok.

So my 2nd suggestion would be to check ur source of Protein and up to 75gr -100 gr and see if that adds energy.

Bet others will give more options / better advise!

Hi im elly, Im a year out and i know exactly how you feel I still feel like some days im just utterly exhausted! I find it helps when i exercise alot of people think exercise is an hour at the gym but honestly i started at 10 minutes a day. Your body is not used to not eating as much as it did its still in Shock mode its going " what why isnt more food coming in! what do i use for energy!" Its going to start burning all that excess fat once it realizes that the lower calories are the new Normal.

I started out simply by walking for ten minutes even if it was just around the house while i was b.s ing on the phone with a friend bodies in motion stay in motion you have to rebuild your stamina. It gets easier trust me ! As far as the food eat things High in Protein Isopure Protein shakes have a whole crapload of Protein they taste awful tho but its worth it. If you want some great nutrition advice follow my group. Foodfacts or go directly to their site. They are Amazing! theyve helped me so much over the past year in choosing healthier foods as well as keeping me informed in their blogs on all the different ways food affects us.

You probably are, but make sure you're getting enough Protein. Also, insufficient sleep will leave you tired all the time. Proper sleep also helps with weight loss.

On a side note, my hat's off to you as a teacher. You guys are so overworked and underpaid!

I asked my NUT about this when I was struggling with fatigue. She suggested I up my carbs. I did this by adding more cooked veggies to my diet and VIOLA! my energy totally returned.

I know there are a lot of people out there that think the only way to lose weight is to follow a low carb diet, but I really don't believe that applies to us sleevers. You have to fuel your body in order for it to work efficiently and carbs are a MAJOR part of that. I would suggest upping your carbs ... get at least 80 g in a day for starters. Give it a try for a week and see what happens. Worked for me.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
