I wish you all the best. I think the band should be the last option, if you've tried it all without success.

I can lose weight easily, but I NEVER keep it off. THAT is my real battle. Hunger always wins and I regain it back. The band for me, will prevent that (please god!)

Best wishes for your health!

Good luck and I know if you put your mind to it you can do it.

I lost19 pounds preop on the liquid diet and mushies and I swear I wasn't even trying. It was very easy. But, there are always butts, I could never, ever keep my off. I wish you many many pounds of loss.

I saw your other thread in Lap Band Discussions and came here to post exactly what leenerbups posted, almost word for word.

Except hunger wasn't my problem but my love affair with food and emotional demons related to food that took me back EVERYTIME, but not this one.

Best Wishes!

I'm right there with you! I was just talking to someone today and she asked how much I had lost. When I told her, she said, "But you've lost that much before on your own, right?" I told her that the nice thing about the band is it makes it much more difficult to gain in back.

Willpower always fails, and for me, even though I'm losing slowly, that's where I see the real power of the band. Last night my dh served me a small piece of chocolate cake. I looked at it with pre-band eyes and thought, "That's not going to be enough; I'm going to want more when I'm done -- about double what I have now!" Once I finished the cake, there was NO WAY I was getting any more down. WOO HOO! I know some would say don't eat chocolate cake at all, but for me it's a huge victory to only have a sliver.

Best wishes to you! I can relate to trying other things. You have to find what works for you. And liquid diets work. I lost 100 pounds 15 years ago on a liquid diet. It was really pretty easy, there were no decisions about food to make and the liquid protien was satisfying. (I still use it in the AM). And according to that weight loss program, I was successful, I kep most of the weight off for 3 years. BUT once I started eating real food, I SLOWLY gained 100 pounds back over 10 years. 10 pounds a year. That really isn't bad, just 200 or so extra calories a day will do the trick. For me, it was keeping the weight off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
