Recommended Posts

I'm wondering how many women who had PCOS before VSG had it go away after surgery. Also I was wondering how many were successful at getting pregnant after surgery. were periods normal and did you have to take any extra hormones in order to conceive? any info helps, and thanks in advance

Im not sure about PCOS and what effect surgery has on it, but i do know you are SUPER fertile post op. Being overweight does negatively impact your fertility which is why many larger women have trouble getting KU

I do not really think PCOS can or will go away after surgery. What probably happens is a change in the symptoms. I'd suggest discussing this with your ob/gyn or pcp for a more indepth answer.

PCOS does go away in women who have RNY and DS as does insulin resistance and diabetes. I don't know if that applies to VSG. I'm certain of that, but based on this being a different surgery I wasn't sure. thanks for the advice btw I will ask my gyn for more info.

Symptoms of PCOS should decrease and/or resolve with any type of weight loss. Traditional diet and exercise, WLS... It's all the same to the body. As the weight comes off the hormones can keep up with our physical mass.

Good luck to you. I have PCOS as well and I'm looking forward to a healthier body and maybe a little baby making one of these days. :)

PCOS has not been proven to have any cure. They symptoms improve with weight loss and changes to your lifestyle.

I have PCOS and I was diagnosed several years ago. I had to stop taking meds prior to surgery (hormones) and was give a patch but never used it. After surgery I was regular and because of the no children for 18 mths rule, I requested to be put on BC and was on BC up until April. During this time I started missing again and my dr said it's not uncommon for that to happen because I still have PCOS.

We started trying to conceive in April with step 1 - stopping the pill, now I'm on step 2 - clomid. I just took round 1 and have a good 4 weeks before I know anything. So fingers-crossed that it works.
