Surgery Looms nearer

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am seeing my consultant Tuesday (tomorrow) and have been doing my homework for the last year. i saw a consultant last year but chickened out of having it done, but this year having gained many more pounds I decided to go ahead and do it. Surgery due to everything being ok with the tests and consultant will go ahead next Wednesday on the 20th. This site is superb, very helpful, and certainly shows the downside of the band!

However I have decided to be an ostrich and go ahead unless told not to or that would be dangerous by the doctor.

I am both excited, and nervous. A walking jittery wreck who is thinking food and lap band, milk and yoghurts 24/ 7 . is this normal.

Lap Band Talk is fantastic. I have found out an awful lot from it. Any pre op or post op advice from anyone out there. I would love to hear from you. Any advice or encouragement or disencouragement gladly welcomed.

Would love to hear from all you lap banders. It would be so nice to talk to people going through the same thing.

labradoodle:hungry: :clap2: :help:   :clap2: :clap2: :help:

Lab, the best of luck to you honey. I'm anxious as heck and I'm telling you that I know everythings going to be fine...and we'll do fine...

I get banded on the 28th, so you'll have to tell me all of the details about your big day!!!

Hi Ladies,

I remember when I was just a few weeks pre-op like you are and what an exciting time that is. Don't be nervous about the surgery itself, as it really is a breeze. You arrive at the hospital and the next thing you know, you wake up and have your band.

Make sure you follow all of your doctors instructions, and don't be afraid to ask him questions. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions here, as that is what we are all here for. Have you checked out the "stickies" at the top of just about all the forums? Most of them have very valuable information for pre-bandsters and I think you will find them very informative and useful.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
