I'm new to this also was sleeved 7/26/12 post op everything was successfull no problems. My only issue is bad GAS and experiencing Ketosis.. Preop I was a smoker (pot) and drinker and stopped 4 days prior to surgery. Nothing to worry about everything will be fine. Just be honest with your Dr and your Anesthesiaist (dont know if i spelled that right) I was up front about everything. The pain is bereable, the more you walk the faster you heal. Now preop a lot of folks mention they were on a liquid/soft food diet, I only did soft foods 1 day prior surgery. If your blood work and test come back fine then you will be fine just follow his orders. I have my post op visit next week and I will be asking when can I have my 1st cocktail and raw oysters..LOL oh BTW I'll be 2 wks tomorrow and I'm 27lbs down as of 3 days ago..

I know it's hard to do, but, you need to quit smoking asap. I, was a pack a day smoker and quit two months before my surgery date. Hardest thing to go thru. But, my life meant more to me than the cigarettes and food. Smoking hinders proper healing, puts you at higher risks of blood clots, and developing pneumonia, etc.. i was sleeved 7/30 and as of today, smokefree for 2 months, 1 week and 2 days. I'm dealing with craving a cigarette, or craving food, or both. It is hard, but I refuse to be a slave to cigarettes and food ever again! Came through surgery just fine, aside from the typical post op stuff most of us deal with, it doesn't seem like I had major surgery! You can do it, you really can!!!

I started with a BMI of 58.5 and now it is 41.8.... I have lost 94 lbs in 4 months. No problems with surgery and the pain was managable. I smoked for 21 years and stopped cold turkey the month before surgery. It is important to get all areas of your life healthy, or atleast it was for me. good luck and I wish u the best in your journey.

I began walking immediately after surgery. I started with only a few steps at first and now I walk atleast 3 miles a day. I have started on some weights for my arms because I do have alot of excess skin. I make sure to drink plenty of Water each day and I concentrate on eating Proteins first. I eat when I'm hungry which is about 3-4 times a day and I always weigh my food first. I eat about 3-4 ounces at a time. (always protein) I probably take in about 500-800 calories a day. I am never hungry and don't starve myself. Everyone loses at different rates though. My dad was sleeved in Dec. 2011 and he has 80 lbs to date. So I think it all depends on your body. Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
