I quit smoking about 5 1/2 years ago & it was honestly the hardest thing Ive ever done & even to this day I sill get occasional craving. Knowing how addictive it is/how hard it is to quit & how much better shape my lungs are in since I stopped there is no way in hell I would ever consider putting another smoke to my lips ......... but you do what you gotta do.

I'm sorry you are going through a rough time right now. I'm definitely not here to judge you. I don't think though that anyone can really give you that answer or at least the answer you are most likely looking for. Only you can make that decision. Just know that it can interfere with healing if you make the decision to do it.

Take Care!

I don't smoke at all but I live with smokers. I wish you wouldn't but maybe a puff or two won't kill you!

I haven't had the surgery yet - but I think if you are constipated & can't keep anything down and this has been going on for more than a day or 2 it warrants a call to your surgeon's office to make sure it's not something more serious like a stricture or something.

As far as Constipation walking may help get things moving. I'm not sure what's allowed on plan after surgery but maybe a Fiber supplement like Metamucil in your Water.

First things first though - call your surgeon - especially if you can't keep Water down. You don't want to get dehydrated.

I can tell you are a non-smoker. :P A puff or two for a former smoker would never be enough. It usually leads to starting smoking again full force and a long time before quitting again. I quit 6 1/2 years ago and although I never crave them anymore, I would even trust myself with a puff or two.

how far out in preop are you? Ive only heard smoking can be bad becuz it can hinder your healing process and cause clots. I say if you are over 6weeks you should be safe. I feel your pain I love my cocktails and counting down the days until i can enjoy one finally

No.

One puff is all it takes to go back down the smokers path.

Just remember antidepressant can take up to a month or more to fully take effect.

Hell no! I hear your reasons for wanting one, but this will severely mess with your healing!! Get out a pen and piece of paper and journal. Watch your favorite tv show or movie. Read a book. You can do this and get through this.

Smoking can cause gastric ulcers in your little stomach.

No judgement - NO!

(I smoked 1-2 packs a day for 28 years and quit prior to surgery. Just remember NOPE - not one puff ever, to save your quit.)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
