Try slim fasts 20g creamy chocolate. Blend with ice. It tastes a lot like the 10 g shake. Only 2g of sugar but I like it and can easily drink 3 a day now (2 weeks post surgery)

thanks i totally forgot about slim fast and ill try it

I've tried several RTD shakes... here is my list and thoughts ( of course everyones tastes are different and historically I have NEVER done shakes! hated them )

Atkins RTD ( milk chocolate and dark chocolate royal ) -- I like both. negatives to this are lower Protein 15grams and higher fat. But I like!

Premier Protein (chocolate) -- I like as well. Very similiar to Atkins but higher protein 30gr and lower fat!

Oh Yeah -- Only tried this one 1 x -- VERY SWEET tasting! but u might love? This is one of the RTD that I learned about from "the world according to eggface" which has AWESOME recipes!!!! for shakes and foods! Highly recommend her blog!!!

EAS --chocolate -- didn't care for this one. got 4 pack and gave the other 3 away.

Muscle Milk --It was ok. I was able to drink it better if I blended w/ ice and made into more of a milkshake as it was a bit sweet.

Hmm why none is using Atkins shakes?

I am using them now Atkins advantage 15g Protein 1g sugar and 160 cal.

I like them especially with coffee.

Are they bad?

I also bought Isopure low carb alpine punch, I tried it warm and don't' like it put in the fridge so hope will be better as cold. I was told that this one I would drink first week after surgery because it is clear liquid.

for pre op diet my doctor want me to buy MediFast shakes. Didn't order them yet, but when I will I will let you know about taste.

I like the atkins, i don't know if they are bad for you I just prefer powder ones. As for the medifast shakes I don't know, I've heard rumors of appetite suppressants being used in them, but for presurgery that might be good. As for the taste it isn't bad I tried my mom's once. My pre surgery was only no meat, no fat, low fat. Being on a liquid might have been easier lol.

This might be a tad off topic... but there is another product that I like... it is K2O.. It is like Crystal light but has 5 gr prot. So it counts as Water, 30 cal, 5 gr prot and 5 gr Fiber. ( 0 sugar but 6 gr carbs)... the pink lemonade is good and mixes in 16.9 - 20 fl oz water.

I hate most Protein Shakes cuz they have a funky bitter aftertaste, but I will drink when necessary. I just started the Premier Protein from Sams Club, they taste like slim fast. Very yummy, especially when blended with ice. I also compared all the Protein shakes at Sams and it had the most protein per ounce compared to the rest. That sealed the deal for me. I haven't really compared with powders cuz they're too inconvenient for me.

Just an update for this thread I tried even more Protein shakes.

-Special K Protein shake (10g protein) -got from CVS. delicious taste, doesnt have that whey aftertaste, unfortunately it's 18g sugar per serving, and the Protein isn't enough daily unless i want to down 6 a day, however it was tasty.

-Slim Fast (10g protein) - Also got from CVS, also great tasting, same deal as Special k they also have 18g sugar per serving, but it taste good, no nasty whey aftertaste. however too little protein so i dont want to drink these all day. However I did purchase the Slim Fast High Protein Powder as well off of Amazon and it has double the protein, I will update this thread on Monday when I try it.

-Ensure Protein Shake (got from CVS, 25g protein, 5g sugar) - didn't like it, too much whey aftertaste, just couldn't drink it, don't recommend, but kudos for putting lots of protein in it.

-Nestle Boost shake Calorie Smart (got from CVS,16g protein, 4g sugar)

I puked it out, couldn't even barely take a tip, extreme whey aftertaste.

-Atkins Advantage (from CVS, 15g protein, 1g sugar).

Don't recommend, still too much whey aftertaste and just doesn't taste good.

-EAS Advantage Carb Control Shake (from CVS, 17g protein, 0g sugar)

couldnt drink it, too much whey taste, didn't like it.

well so far not so good today, the only shakes I liked and didn't have that disgusting whey aftertaste are the ones with too little protein in it and lot of sugar. I guess the sugar helps to hide the whey taste which is a good thing, i just wish those had more protein in it.

So i did purchase more Protein drinks and I will rate them in the next few days.

I purchased Slimfast powder high protein, Chicke Nutrition powder, Oh - yea! Protein Shakes, and i also will go to Sams Club to buy Premiere protein shakes and ill also go to Vitamin Shoppe to buy BodyTech chocolate.

boy this sure is a lot of work to find a shake I like.

I love the bolthouse farms also. Too much sugar, so I mix a little with my Protein Powder and 1% milk. Gives it the flavor I need without all the carbs. Sorry, I know your looking for one thing in a bottle to drink, but I'm out 8 weeks and still haven't found it. A person could go broke trying all these and still not be happy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
