Fair Warning this might be a dumb post and I'll blame lack of sleep for my stupidity now.... :)

Ok so I have gotten into a really really bad habit. I take sips and I mean tiny sips when I eat. I don't know how it started. But I was sitting here reading through some posts and kept seeing the no drinking in 1/2 hour of eating and I realized I just sipped Water while eating my lunch.....Then I started thinking about it and I do that a lot if not every meal. So now I'm all paranoid and wondering if anyone else has had this habit creep up and if there are any good tips for how to stop, other than moving my water to a different place, but then I'll forget to drink it lol.

Thanks, I tried searching for it in the forums and couldn't find anything. I don't know that I eat more, I put the recommended amounts of food on my plate (I still measure everything out) and can't finish them. My husband told me to use the snap myself with a rubber-band trick. It was just one of those things that dawned on me and I really couldn't remember the reason behind it, so the info you gave me helps a lot.

I do drink when eating, and it doesn't flush my food or mess with my fullness level. I think SleeveofSteel drinks while eating too.

Yeah, the video with the apple sauce in the funnel...that was a good video.

I was also dying of thirst everytime I ate. I could barely stand to wait 30 minutes. Then I upped my Water intake because I didn't think I was drinking enough Water. After that I never had a problem separating my eating and drinking again.

This might be one of those it's different for everyone things. I just wish I knew when I started doing that. I know I had a problem with using straws that popped up out of no where and that was easy to break. I just got rid of all of my straws lol.

I drink between 50 and 60 oz of water a day. I'm afraid if I drink more I'll float. I allow myself one small cup of coffee on days when I really need it and one cup of tea or juice a day. I was drinking a lot of Decaf iced tea and not enough water at one point which is why I restrict myself now. How much water do you drink a day on avg?

This is of course a "YMMV" situation (Your Mileage May Vary)

Love it!

My Dr. tells us - stop drinking 15 mins. prior to eating (not hard) and to wait 45-50 minutes after (which is terrible!)

Everytime it is time to eat I make the choice between a drink and will often put off food because I know it will be a looong time before I can have one. I have taken a sip a couple of times to help get food down - but I have to put the drink in another room. This one is probably my most challenging post-op rule bar none.

That was a good video as well.

I was drinking 80-90 oz of water a day, and that wasn't enough. I work outside in the heat. My urine was dark, I was cramping every night, my skin was dry and I was always thirsty. I upped it to 140-150 oz and I've felt so much better since then. But keep in mind I'm a big guy and I was about 10 weeks out when I upped everything. You may not be able to hold that much water anytime soon, or maybe never. I try to drink 8-10 oz an hour from the time I get up till I go to bed. That way I'm never bloated or water logged.

I'm 20 months post op and I'm doing good to get in the liquid amount that I do. I still eat super tiny meals, but I eat very slowly and stop the min I start feeling full. I can still only drink 4 oz of a Protein shake at a time. I might try upping my water intake and nixing the tea and see how I do.

I drink out of a tupperware sports drink bottle. When I finish each bottle, I attach a post it note to the bottle with the time I can eat, 30 minutes ahead. After I eat, I then attach a new post it with the time I can refill the water bottle. Seems silly, but it really works for me. Especially at work. I have adjusted to eating without drinking.

That is a pretty good idea. I'm a sucker for post it notes. My husband hates seeing them on the door when I make a note about what I need to pick up.

An alarm on my phone might not be a bad idea.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
