How To Lose 10% Of Body Weight

Recommended Posts

One of the requirements with my insurance co. before I have surgery is that I must lose 10% of my body weight. I'm really having a hard time. Anyone else struggling with this or had to go through the same thing? Any tips you can share with me would be great.

Holly

Sorry to hear that. My insurance doesn't have this requirement. But might be this is another way for them to tell you to be on 6 months diet?

Get the sleeve.

Sorry. Just kidding (boy I hope you have a good sense of humor)...

Cut soda, carbs (no white stuff--flour, sugar ), eating after dinner, walk (or whatever exercise you can do). For Snacks just have lots of sugar free ice pops in every flavor handy and herbal teas (take long to drink- give taste buds a "fix"). Oh and tons of Water. Start drinking Protein shakes- they fill you up for so long and have great Protein so you have energy.

Good luck!! :)

I agree with Marty on this one. I'm not typically a super low carb diet fan only because I feel it is falls more under the "diet" category and because, for me, it is very restrictive, and not sustainable long term. However, I was on a super low carb diet for my preop diet and I lost 14 pounds in two weeks. I'd suggest doing something similar to mine: a shake for Breakfast and lunch and for dinner, 5 oz. of lean Protein with some low carb veggies. If you need Snacks, use lean sources of Protein.< /p>

Good luck to you. You can do this!

Remember the old joke - what's the best way to lose 10 pounds of ugly fat....Cut off your head!

Seriously you can do it if you have enough time. Sign up for My Fitness Pal and plan a diet where you lose 1.5 pounds per week. Then stick to it. You want to get this procedure which is why you will be able to do this and succeed.

I started using Protein Drinks the day after my first meeting with the surgeon and am losing weight nicely ! Have gone from 242 to 229 as of this morning. I love the chocolite banana Cream flavor and throw in half a banana or mango or strawberries. I also put in ice cubes and the required Water or skim milk and blend in blender. shakes are thick and creamy and keep me filled for hours! I also am using the Syntrax strawberry kiwi powder in my water which helps ward off cravings for sweets and such. In the evening if I need a little snack I have a half of the rockin roll nut Protein Bar which is delish! Half of a bar along with sipping water fills me!

Wish you well in your journey!!

If you drink regular soda... stop immediatly... That little change alone will make a huge difference. I lost 10lbs in one month pre-surgery by just not drinking soda. I ate like I would normally eat (which was BAD) and still lost... It's amazing what little changes can do. As mentioned in another post, sugar free popcicles are another great way to get a sweet treat and cut some calories... Good luck!!!

Do you have to maintain the weightloss? If not, (I can't believe in saying this) Water pills will definately drop a few lbs. it's not permanent by any means, but if you need to lose a few lbs in a pinch, they will do he trick.

Atkins induction - Atkins 72 induction is even better (essentially trying for zero carbs)

Up your water/crystal lite/calorie free beverages, ditch processed carbs, no flour, no rice, no sugar. Works like a charm, once you detox from carbs/sugar - you wont crave it any longer and the weight pretty much melts off, especially if you consumed this stuff before.

Oh my gosh........thank you to everyone for your input!!! It helps me so much. I'm going to take your advice and keep your encouragement close to heart. I am really feeling discouraged because I haven't lost, but hearing all of you lifts my spirit up.

Thanks again!!!

I lost 65 lbs in 4 1/2 months pre-op working with my surgeon's NUT. I did a 3/2 program- 3 low carb Meal Replacements a day and 2 "lean and green" meals. I usually had 2-3 low carb Protein Bars (were more filling and tastier than shakes). It surprisingly kept me full. I liked the Atkins or Pure Protein ones. And then lunch and dinner were low carb meals with lean meats and green veggies. It taught me a lot about cooking and eating in preparation for post-op eating. I also did more Water and Crystal Lite, like the others mentioned.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
