I don't get it

Recommended Posts

I am so frusterated right now because After my first 2 weeks from surgery I basically stopped losing wieght all together. In fact I have gained back 5 pounds. Its been about 4 weeks or so since I had surgery, I thought I would maybe lose 2 pounds a week but this gaining thing is really upsetting me. I dont feel like I am eating alot more then I was before, I am basically still eating mushy foods. I feel like I may have to stay on liquids for the rest of my life to lose anything. The most solid food I eat is an egg, what will happen when I eat regular foods. I dont eat more then 3 times a day also and its still stuff like cottage cheese or sugar free Jello, or those shakes from my pre-op diet that I still have a ton of. Okies wanna go cry now talk to u soon.

Gummies, do not get frustated hun, many of us have experienced the exact same thing as you after getting our band. I gained about 6 pounds between getting my band and getting my first fill. What is important to remember, and something my surgeon constantly reminded me of, is that now is the time for healing, not losing weight. The time for losing will begin after you get your first fill. It may even take a couple of fills, but I promise, you will reach the point of restriction and begin losing weight.

You're like MOST people so don't despair. Once you start getting fills, the band will start working and the weight will come off. Call and get your first fill scheduled and see if they will allow you to advance to solid foods. It's often easier to control the caloric intake when you're eating solid Protein.< /span>

I gained about 5 lbs between my surgery and my first fill. It's just your body adjusting after weeks of an all liquid diet. I know it's hard to see the scale go up, but don't worry. The band wasn't meant to work without a fill. You WILL lose weight - hang in there!!

Thx guys that does make me feel alot better. Its just hard cuz I live in such a small town and it seems like everyone knows I had this done (Not because I told them either) Thats how small we are u cant take a pee without someone finding out. I was going to keep it a secret but HAHA Ya right like that could happen. Half are waiting for me to fail and the other half want me to do well. I am feeling the pressure.

Just tell those that are nosy enough to ask that until you reach suitable restriction you do not expect significant weight loss. That's expected. Also, remind them you did NOT have gastric bypass so this weight loss with be slow and healthy, versus rapid and unhealthy. It's a lifestyle change, not a forced malabsorption arrangement. It's also okay to let them know you'll update THEM when you have good news to report but it's very stressful to feel under scrutiny each time you see someone.

Until you have a fill (or two or three) you don't have a 'working' band....it's just been inserted. It can't do its job until hafter you begin getting some restriction.

What you are experiencing is very typical, very normal. Just realx and let your body heal. When it's time, when you get a fill that can give you enough restriction, then the pounds will begin to fall off. And you will feel great! I understand about the 'small town' mentality. Ignorance abounds regarding weight loss surgery, doesn't it.

Frustrated would only begin to express my feelings toward the surgery... i had my surgery over 9 months ago and havent lost a single pound!!!

Wow. I'm sorry to hear this! I guess the questions to ask are:

1. Have you had any fills?

2. Are you exercising?

3. Are you drinking at least 64oz of Water a day?

4. Are you focusing on Protein, then quality veggies first, then carbs IF you have room left?

If you're doing all these things and not snacking in between, you may need to ask your doc for a referral to an endocrinologist as there are metabolic disorders that cause your body to hang onto weight.

Can you give more information??

Not "may need to talk" but definately start to demand anwers from your doc. If you have been working your band, and still are not seeing any resutls, it's time to ask why.

Stacy, I didn't any "real" weight loss, other than Water and edema weight with my band either. So I started to demand answers from my doctors. It took months before I was able to get answers, I finally have them. Please feel free to PM me.

The answer that I found is that I have Cushing's. The number one symptom? Obesity.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
