Hello, I am a new member here, and I just wanted to introduce myself and say "hello!" I am scheduled for surgery on September 24, 2012 (pending insurance approval), and I am excited, nervous, scared, anxious and all of the other adjectives that I'm sure a lot have experienced prior to their surgeries. I was so happy to have found this board; the information I've been reading is really helpful. Oh, I guess I should have properly introduced myself: my name is Stephanie and I am in my mid 40's, and I've been struggling with my weight all of my adult life. I look forward to meeting many of you and learning from everyone!

Hi Stephanie! My name is Debbie and I will be having surgery Aug 25th. I know the anxious and nervousness you are feeling but I just keep thinking how much this is going to make my life better, :) I was going to go thru my insurance as well but they started giving me the run aoround and for the same amount of cash I was going to have to spend for my deductible and such I decided to go to TJ. For $4500 and a plane ticket and passport I am allset and ready to go.

Hi Debbie! Best of luck to you -- it's getting close now! :) I just heard today that my insurance approved my surgery, so that's one step closer! I wish you all the best!

Just want to say hello and welcome. I'm pre-op so I have no words of wisdom for you. I'm going through the same emotions. Up and down...just trying to keep my focus on the end result: a healthy me :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
