No, No, NOOOO! Do NOT back out! Take a deep breath, innnn and outtttt! ;-) You've come soo far and you're right here at it, don't give up now! Think of how amazing you're going to look and feel a year from right this second!! It's ok (and totally normal) to be a bundle of nerves, trust me, I nearly ran out of the hospital prior to being wheeled back..with the IV in my arm! I was so scared but I was determined to take control back. Think of all of the things you will gain by doing this, your health, your body, chic clothes, confidence...make a list! When the butterflies start swarming, break out your list and think about those things! You're going to do great..follow dr's orders, sip, walk, rest and repeat!!

You've totally got this!!! :-D

From what I've seen on here, and from my own experience, having cold feet is normal. When I was lying in the hospital bed waiting to be brought into surgery, I started muttering to myself a bunch of four-letter words followed by, "What the hell am I doing?!?!?!" I was scared and nervous. But then I thought about all the time I spent considering the surgery (I had to wait six months because of my insurance) and how confident I was about my decision before I was lying in that bed. I decided I had to trust my pre-operation-day self and the clear-headed mindset I had had when I made the decision. It helped me put aside my fear.

I don't regret my decision in the least.

You have come too far to back out now. I have surgery in a week and I am so excited. I know it will be a hard at times, but there are so many positives, it would be a shame not to try.

Those 31 pounds you have worked hard for pre-op...aren't coming back post op. And those other 54 pounds you have in your goal ticker will be achievable with this tool. And all those miserable thoughts and feelings and struggles with your weight that you have had in the past that even made you start thinking about and pursueing this surgery will be just a part of a journey towards your new lighter life. Its a major life changing event that you will take part in, in next 40 hours. Its normal to be nervous. I'm not to far into this game just 24 days out and I don't regret it one bit. I went into my closet today putting together clothes for an interview I have tomorrow and I had to go through a few things I had not worn in quite awhile to find something that fit and was not too big and baggy. I'm amazed at just how much difference the first pounds have made...what a huge difference. I can barely imagine how I'm gonna feel in 6mths to a year from now.

Oh and if all this encouragement doesn't help...take an ativan...it'll all be over in no time! lol :)

I replied in your other thread asking you to iterate what your fears are, but I would also like to mention that being cautious is a good thing. This is a big decision and a very personal one at that.

You need to be sure that you are ready to make a fundamental change with your relationship with food. If you are not, this hesitation you are feeling could be a signal that you are not ready at this time. I have read so many posts from folks who, IMO, were not ready for this step, yet.

Don't jump in blind and make sure you are ready to make the commitment. The sleeve will be there when you are ready.

I think the majority of people here had fears just before surgery... I know I did. I doubted myself, I though.. . "I can do this on my own can't I?", I worried about everything that I wouldn't be eating after surgery... and then I stopped and remembered why I was doing this in the first place. I realized that I couldn't do it on my own, I had tried so many times before and failed. I remembered that eating anyting and as much of it as I wanted is what got me here in the first place. I realized that if I wanted to live a long healthy life that things had to change... and change NOW. I was sleeved on June 13. I lost 25 pre-op and 34 so far post op.... I would have never been able to do that on my own... especially in that timeframe.

Don't get cold feet... It's a big change... but it's a GOOD change. When I first joined this site someone told me that "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" and let me tell you, after losing 60lbs of me I agree completely. Good luck and all the best with your surgery this week.

Please Please Please, do not back out! I (like everyone else) has gone through this!!! Your emotions are very out of whack by this point! My recovery was sooo smooth and I thought the same as you, and here I am 3 weeks and off all of my meds as of today, forgot about the surgery already! Really, you will get through this! Be strong and think about all the good things that will come out of this, they will outweigh the bad! :D Good Luck and God Bless!

Thank you everyone so much for your kind words. When I am thinking clearly I know that I need this for my health and well being. When I am starving all I can think about is a cold cut sub and how I will miss them so.

Do not back out! This will be the best decision you could ever make for yourself. And as for starving, I am 7 weeks post-op and have never had the first hunger pain, not one single craving for anything and the smell of food doesn't bother me at all! I am so happy with my sleeve! I lost 20 lbs pre-op and 40 post-op! Remember there is no food that tastes as good as being thin feels!!!!

I was terrified, too, but it all went away the day before surgery when I was very, very calm. I had no pain, nausea, or vomiting post-op and a very easy recovery. I've lost 96 lbs and wear a size 6! You can do it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
