I don't have a surgery date yet, I have my second consult with my surgeon next week, and my first NUT appt the same day, I have lost 6 pounds so far. I am really emotional. I don't mean a little teary and upset. I mean hard core crying at everything (worse than pregnancy), depressed, and I just want to go to bed and sleep until this all gets worked out and I am going to surgery, or better yet wake up after surgery in recovery. I don't know what to do, I just feel hopeless and alone, and I don't know.....

Has anyone else gone through depression and hopelessness pre-op? What did you do?

Definitely!! I can related. When I made the final decision to have the surgery I remember just shaking and not sleeping with many fears. That subsided and then I started getting really excited. It was a great decision for me and i wish you all the best!!

I feel what u say! I too have been stressing and it soo hard to b on my liquid diet considering I'm a stressful eater... I don't have much support either, they tell me it's kinda selfish and they show no interest or they tell me to lose "normal" and stop taking the easy way out.. But little do they know it's going to be a hard journey, but I will succeed and so will you!! You have all the encouragement here and we have all gone thru what u have or will have! So we can all relate... Don't cry please it will get better.. Just imagine : a second chance, a new beginning, a new life!! * new clothes ;) don't get discouraged or sad we are here for you !!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
