Hi I am getting nervous..I am 3 wks away from surgery 0829.. For the last 3-4 wks I have started a modified (lol) high Protein low carb diet. I start my 3 wk diet tomorry. 2 wks of the high protein low carb, 3rd week is the dreaded liquid diet. I do really good at work but not so well at home. Any tips of how to be more strict on my diet at home?

Get rid of anything you shouldn't be eating. If you've got a family, shift stuff in the cupboards so you have your own cupboard and don't have to see their food. Same thing with food in the fridge.

That is a good idea of getting my own little space.

Yes, the clean out is essential (and therapeutic!) Find things to keep you busy when you are at home. Identify the triggers at home that make you want to eat (mine were sitting at the computer and watching television, wandering through the kitchen, well just about any excuse, but I digress) and start practicing making changes now. I bring a glass of Water or a Protein Shake to the computer. I would save my one sugar free Jello allowed for each day for nighttime tv watching. Also, keep reminding yourself that this is just one week. That was my mantra for the liquid phase. "I can do this, it's only a week...."

Good luck! You'll do great. Surgery day will be here before you know it!

I agree with everyone keep yourself busy and get your Protein in the best you can, its hard but worth it. Trust me it gets easier. My first three weeks post op has been the hardest, now its getting easier..Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
