Hello all, My name is Gina and I am 25 years old. I am a newbie on this site and so far have found it absolutely amazing. Everyone is so knowlegdable and so sweet. I am now 3 days post- op. My surgery was at 11am on August 3rd 2012. My highest weight was 241. Pre-op before liquid diet 236. One day into liquid diet 230 second day into liquid diet 227. Day of surgery 8/3 I was 224. During my hospital stay I went back up to 227. Today I am 224. Any advice for the newbie in town? Reguarding anything and everything! I need as much advice as possible. :) From diets to excercise esp. Because I am worried about excess skin? Anything you have to offer I will be grateful of. Thanks ❤

Sounds like you have a great positive attitude. Keep it up! There will probably skin issues but my thoughts are I'll handle those when I get to them. Keep your attitude I understand that things will get hard a rough and your attitude will get you though. I'm only 1 week post op, and personally things have gone much better that I thought. I know I will be tested eventually and we have to be positive. So my advice, remaim positive no matter what happens.

Don't worry about the scale. Just enjoy whats about to happen. As soon as you are ready to workout get it started. If you are worried about excess skin start weight training first because you are gonna lose weight regardless. If you start with cardio you will lose very fast and lose muscle as well as fat. Drink Protein everyday. I am two months and six days out. I have lost 96 pounds. I am 56 pounds lighter then when I took my profile picture. I still have problems with solid food. If I eat food too quick you better believe my little stomach is saying everyone out of the pool NOW!!. But you have nothing to worry about you have a pretty face and your gonna do great. Keep me posted on your progress.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
