Good to hear from you! How are you feeling?

I am 5 1/2 weeks post op and down 22 pounds. I was excited to see the 180's today. Also started a box for clothes that are getting to big. A little disappointed that I did a major wardrobe upgrade this last year.....not getting much use out of my new clothes.

Hi all, I'm 2 weeks post op as of today and I have to say, the past 2 days have been rough. I'm not sure if it's maybe just some bruising and healing I'm feeling inside, but I do have some abdominal pain. It's nothing horrible or any sharp pains....best way to describe is that I feel like I've done 1000 sit ups. Took it very easy last night and going to as much as possible for the next few days. Hope it goes away soon.

On the plus side, I'm down 24 lbs!! Feels great!!

If something is seriously wrong, I think you'll know. I had 2 days of non stop abdominal pain but it is getting better. To think about the major surgery that we've had, it is normal to have pains as our bodies heal and adjust. If you have pain killers, take them. If not, get some! And if you are very concerned, I suggest seeing your doc. Did you get yeast infection from your antibiotics? I got it, plus thrush in my mouth. Apparently its common. I'm being treated for both right now. Take care and hope you feel better soon. Get lots of rest and don't over do it.

Got a late leak. Been in the hospital almost 10 days now. My stomach is on a break. No food or liquids. Just strictly fluids & tpn (liquid calories) through a picc line. Gonna re-test to see if the leak is closed in another 6 days. Just re-tested yesterday and got the bad news that the leak is still there. It's smaller but still there. Been a long haul. I'm almost a month post-surgery.

Just unfortunate luck that I got a late leak. It sucks most being in the hospital and not knowing how long it will take to heal. I'm out of the woods for any real serious issues, as long as I keep following doctors orders. We'll just keep testing week by week until the leak is gone. Hoping it won't take too long. Remember me in your prayers.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
