Today I had my second of three monthly required NUT visits. Another month to go and all my requirements will be completed, hoping for an oct surgery date. Problem is that it feels like it will never happen. I gained 2 pounds in the last month because of vacation and i just feel terrible. I went to the mall with my kids and saw my reflection. I look like a fat old lady. I was shapely once, could turn a head or two. Now I get giggles as teen girls get a load of my ridiculous rump. I have stopped socializing, having my picture taken, and even my mother (who is overweight herself) can't seem to shut up about how much weight I have gained. It has been uphill battle for all my life. Until 15 years ago, i kept it in check with diet pills and running 2-5 miles a day. Then my last marriage started falling apart, I became overweight, and my then husband would call me fat and disgusting...I was no longer his trophy wife. i met the man who loves me for who I am and he has supported me through Atkins, and medifast, and southbeach, weight watchers, you name it, I failed it. After all these failures, I am so afraid some glitch will happen. My insurance will deny, something will happen to prevent this from happening. I know I am rambling, I am sorry. i just feel like I have been such a failure,

I think many of us share these feelings with you. You are not a failure - I see it more as courageous. For Pete sale you made it through a bad marriage and survived! That's not easy and now you have the person you are meant to be with. This will happen for you. Always think positive. I share the same fears of insurance games but it is what it is. If you have a good doc they will fight for you. Just go with the flow. It will be here before you know it :)

Actually u dont faile until u dont give up and lose the fight and u are still fitting. Im 23 and i all i cant tell u is dont mind the people looking. Kids do it cuz they are innorante and dont understand that food is addictive just as tabacco is. And who knos they might end up in ur shoes 2. But i congratulate u on not giving up and getting ur surgery. And if insurance denies try and try again girl

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
