Brandy78 7 Posted August 6, 2012 Schedule for 3 weeks for medical leave of absence. Now everybody is asking me what's going on? Finally the pressure got to much to bare, so I confessed "I'm having WLS" to my surprise everyone was very supportive, there even throwing me last meal carry in 1 Justine13 reacted to this
Aaron in Tulsa 147 Posted August 6, 2012 Good to hear! However, I wonder if it's legal for your employer to let everybody know you'll be on medical leave without your permission... 1 prettysleeved1 reacted to this
prettysleeved1 173 Posted August 6, 2012 That's what I'm wondering. How did it go from you putting in for it through HR or your supervisor to everyone knowing enough to ask you why you are going on leave? 1 SleeveandRNYchica reacted to this
Brandy78 7 Posted August 6, 2012 Hmmm, i know it isn't legal for them to tell what I'm going to be off for
Brandy78 7 Posted August 6, 2012 We self schedule six weeks in advance, everyone is able to see everyone schedule, if someone is off for lets say maternity leave it will read Jane doe off 8/2-9/20. The reason everyone was questioning why I was off for medical leave because I haven't been sick or mentioned to anyone I was having surgery. The questioning was more out of concern. My company did not break any laws because they did not disclose why I would be off work for the next couple of weeks. As a matter of fact, HR doesn't even know I'm having wls, I told them I needed to be off for an upper Gi surgery.

Brandy78 7 Posted August 7, 2012 So you must not be using FMLA if you didn't go through HR. I haven't been there a year, so I don't qualify for fmla, so I will be off on a non fmla medical leave
