LOL This is the biggest can of worms you can open on this forum! Be prepared for a lengthy, heated thread. Every doc is different. My doc said NO CARBONATION forever and ever, so I will not ever have it.

Go by whatever your doc says you can or can't do and follow his instructions to the letter. That's all I've got to say about that. :)

sugar free flavored STILL Water, like water with MiO, or Vitamin water, or crystal light are fine... Carbonation is not a good idea. My surgeon says never again. Maybe the flavors will help.

My surgeons also said no carbonated drinks ever. I have had some urges to drink a soda here and there but don't allow myself too. I would be devastated if it stretched my stomach out and I gained weight. So I choose to follow my doc's rules to the T! Well not all of them, but the majority. Just squeeze some lemon or Orange in your Water or use mio. They taste ok. I carry mio in my purse. :)

No more carbonation ever. I will say that I do take a sip here and there of mostly beer if someone is drinking it. More to taste things. But even those little sips (and I mean sips) hurt! Go ahead and try a sip and see how it feels. Hopefully it won't feel good and help kick the craving. But the air it puts in your tummy makes it hurts and they say it can eventually stretch it out. I don't think I could handle an actual drink of it. Hurts!

I was told no carbonation as well. I could care less about soda, but there have been times that I thought my head was going to explode from not being able to drink a beer in the hot weather.

I miss beer! Lol. But my tiny sips kinda help. I get to taste it in my mouth but then when it goes down it burns and hurts. And that makes me not want anymore.

We hosted a pool party/bbq yesterday. I snuck a sip of beer... it didn't hurt.. it didn't burn... it tasted wonderful lol. I can't do that anymore though. :)

I will answer this by saying you should not do it. Carbonation is not recommended for the sleeve.

That being said, I had a dr pepper at about 6 weeks and the only adverse effect it had in me is showing me that I really don't like dr pepper that much anymore.

NO CARBONATION ....is what my team at Kaiser hospital said. Then one of my buddies told me why...she said that it could stretch your stomach. Now whether that is true or not....I don't want to go through all of this just to have it. Just my opinion.

Yeah, that diet coke thread was rather hot.

If your doctor or NUT didn't already answer this question in detail for you, you should call them and ask. If you trust their expertise, and you should if you let them operate on you, then follow their plan, whatever it is.

I waited close to a year before trying carbonation and it was painful. I wasn't told never again, but it's not something I like to do. At most I'll take a sip of my husbands once it's all watered down. I drink tea or bottled Water with flavor stuff in it. Same thing for straws too is the air. I was warned against chewing gum though which I found funny. It'll be different from everyone, just because a dr says not to doesn't mean people will listen. I'm not sure what the risk is with you be so early post-op.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
