I'm not a BIG Pasta person, but...once in a while, I would like some. Is there a pasta/pasta substitute, with VERY few carbs, and higher in Protein? Carbs really Wreak havoc on my weight loss, so the fewer, the better.

my MIL swears by these miracle noodles. They have zero net carbs. I haven't tried them yet. http://www.miraclenoodle.com/

I love Pasta and eat a lot of it. Remember, not all carbs are bad carbs. If you eat whole wheat Pasta, that is actually quite good for you and honestly, I can't tell any difference in the taste.

I watched the video on the Miracle Noodle home page and it said that the noodles "expand slightly" in the stomach. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have something "expand" in our sleeve since we don't want the sleeve stretched out.

I have tried the bariatric Nacho cheese Pasta they have at my Dr's office, most bariatric places online sell them - not bad, I don't seem to have the same yearning for Pasta post sugery. I tried it because it has Protein added.

Bariatric Advantage has a lot - but I have not tried them all.

I like Ancient Harvest Quinoa Pasta. Granted it's not lower in carbs, but it's made with corn and quinoa flour which is lower on the glycemic index because of Protein content. Granted, like any other refined or non-whole food carb (i.e. veggies and fruits) -- it's only good in moderation and you have to be aware of what you put on it. Store-bought pasta sauces should be banned when losing weight, make your own with fresh whole tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and basil. All in season and yum! And of course - PROTEIN FIRST! I'm lucky if I can eat 1oz of pasta after getting my protein and veggies in.

Even carbs from vegetables, melon and berries halt my weight loss and even can cause a 2lb weight gain, overnight. My NUT said not to eat any fruits/veggies for a while, so I'm sure that the carbs from whole wheat Pasta wouldn't be any better.

How do they taste? I've tried Shirataki noodles from the grocery store, they had a rotten fish smell, EWWW! I definitely want to try these, though, if they taste/smell ok.

I haven't had them yet, but she did not say they were fishy. I know you have to be particular about the cooking. I think she boils then lays on paper towel to absorb some of the excess Water to keep the texture better. Also, you have to rinse really well when you open the package I think.

I have tried the miracle noodles and could not eat them. They have a horrible fishy smell, very strong. I could not get past the smell long enough to eat them. I do not recommend.

I've seen recipes using spaghetti squash and Egg Face has a zucchini pasta... has anyone tried anything like that? I'm curious because I get Pasta cravings too... especially when out to eat. :(

I was on a romantic weekend with BF this weekend- staying in a cute seaside B&B and the only dinner they were serving was Lobster Mac & cheese. I could have picked the lobster out and ignored the pasta- but I totally dug in to that insanely delicious dish! I got about 4 bites in and was done. Full & finshed.

Now.... Im doing good on my weight loss- at 4 mo out I am happy and can eat anything w/o any issues.... but I don't obsess over carbs. I try to stick to Protein and make good choices but if something tempts me- I'm gonna eat it.

So.... In my opinion- if you want it and can tolerate it- go for it! Have some Pasta when going out or if you are in a pinch. All good things in moderation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
