Argnewcan 3 Posted August 6, 2012 I was sleeved July 11. Tonight I ate at a restaurant for the first time. Sweet Tomatoes is a salad bar place if you don't have them your area. The first picture is what my friend ate. The second is my plate. In case you can't tell, there is chicken, cheese, pickles, beets, mandarin oranges, chick peas, edaname, and lettuce. I ate about half of it. I also had about a third of a cup of mac & cheese and one bite of a chocolate chip cookie. Other than paying the same as my friend, my meal was very satisfying. I though others would enjoy seeing what a real meal looks life post surgery.

mickmick 5 Posted August 6, 2012 not sure how I feel about this but my doctor has a card that explains the wls and requests that these buffet type restaurants only charge a childs price.I have heard others talk about using them but not sure.
CrazyCatLady 130 Posted August 6, 2012 not sure how I feel about this but my doctor has a card that explains the wls and requests that these buffet type restaurants only charge a childs price.I have heard others talk about using them but not sure. I've yet to have a buffet-style restaurant honor my card yet, though I've presented it often enough. I usually get the "Sorry, ma'am - we can't accept this", so I suck it up and pay full price anyways. Somehow, it seems like cosmic justice: for years, I paid for myself but ate enough for 3 people....now, I pay for myself and eat less than a quarter of what 'normal folks' do. It works. 1 lyndynojo reacted to this
Argnewcan 3 Posted August 6, 2012 Cosmic justice for sure. I figure I am saving money in general by not having to buy so many groceries. My friend chose the restaurant and I agreed because he said they would have cottage cheese. They didn't but the chicken was a good substitute. As for the vegetables, I ate two chick peas and the lettuce. I did not eat the pickles, the beets, or the edaname because I ate the chicken and cheese and that filled me up. Technically I am still in the mushie phase with food but I have had no complications and have been branching out a bit. So far so good. I don't plan on eating red meat or nuts or anything too "hard" until I get clearance from my doctor.

No one is required to accept/honor those cards, they are just something that doctor's offices/bariatric programs create. Honestly I am not even sure why they do it. If I should find a restaurant that does honor it, they'd probably have a patron for life.
phatdivabbw 86 Posted August 6, 2012 I always decline visits to the buffet. It's such a waste of my money. I do love that fact that when I do eat out. I can order an appetizer and be satisifed. No I don't like splitting the tab with friends it's so unfair. I can't eat and drink at the same time. I request my drink after I've eaten because I made the mistake too many times of grabbing my drink out of habit and sipping only to vomit. Also my doc said this can stretch you sleeve so wait 20-30 mins after you eat to drink.

CrazyCatLady 130 Posted August 6, 2012 I like buffets for take out. You can get only what you want, ant pay by weight. I do that often with our favorite chinese buffet - I can get yakitori and some hibachi meat and veggies for $3 per lb, which is not too shabby...and then eat out of my take-out box for 4 or 5 meals, lol.
