Suggestions...

  • In N Out Burger has a "Protein style" burger. Hamburger patty wrapped in lettuce. I had part of one for lunch today while we were out school shopping.
  • Taco Bueno, Taco bell, Taco casa, etc... order a bowl of Beans and a scoop of taco meat or chicken meat.< br />
  • Chick Fil A ... kids meal with grilled chicken tenders and a fruit cup.
  • Grilled chicken breast from just about any fast food sandwich place.
  • Chipotle (you can even go to their website and plan your meal ahead of time!)
  • Chinese food... Pei Wei String Bean chicken or Mushroom Chicken

We eat out way too often but I'm learning to eat right when I go out!

You avoid fast food as much as you can, but if you're in a pinch you can order:

Burger w/o the bun(In&Out calls this "protien style")

Grilled chicken sandwich w/o bun

Chili (Wendy's)

Fruit& yogurt parfait

Steak or chicken burrito w/o rice (taco bell) eat the filling, discard the tortilla

Pintos & cheese (Taco Bell)

LJS has a grilled fish plate

Most fast food places have something you can eat.

But a recovering food addict going to fast food joints is tantamount to a crack fiend hanging out at a drug dealers house.

Just not a good idea.

I failed to mention that I ALWAYS have a Quest bar and crystal light pouches in my purse. If all else fails, I can always have a quest bar for a meal (for a snack I only eat 1/2 of one).

If you have a Jimmy John's nearby, you can order any of their sandwiches as an "unwich." An unwich is the same ingredients as the sandwich wrapped in lettuce instead of bread.< /p>

Subway! Anything they make a sandwhich out of they will make you a salad! I had a meatball salad one day yum.

My favorite is the BBQ chicken one. And Subway is great cause they have every topping you could want on a salad!

Ok so I know many are against fast food.... But mcdonalds let's you customize your meal on the website. I eat the grilled chicken wrap minus the wrap. Their website tells you the calories/protein for that meal. I get several of the wraps without the tortilla. Really there are several menu items (without tortilla or bun) that fit in our diet. Red Robbin also let's you customize your meal and gives you the stats. Love websites like that!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
