cpbaby 0 Posted September 10, 2006 Wehave BCBS UT Select through my husbands work (we works for University of Texas). Does anyone know anything about thier coverage of lap band or who I would call to find out if they cover it?
dolphinsle 0 Posted September 13, 2006 I am not sure but I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas HealthSelect and they will NOT pay for it in no way. There should be a number on the card or a website you can go to about exclusions. Most likely they will not pay for it. I want to also find a way to pay for it as well. Lilly73 0 Posted September 13, 2006 HELLO. All you have to do is call your insurance company and ask if they cover it....they will tell you. I am still in the "research stages" of this also. Good luck!

fda1643 0 Posted September 17, 2006 my mother has a form of blue cross I can't remember exactly what it is but they said if i can prove that I have been over weight for more than five years and tried to lose the weigh (dieting and excercising i guess) they will cover it. lpbndinfo 0 Posted September 18, 2006 I found that Blue Cross and Blue Shield doesnt cover the Lapband. I live in Texas and can share my experience with you... Feel free to contact me anytime.... I was banded 8/26/02 and debanded on 1/6/6... It is a great surgery... but there are other options out there and that should be considered. Take care and best wishes... Nathalie 4 Posted September 18, 2006 I am a BCBS of MI and they cover it 100%. I only have to pay $100 out of pocket for my hospitalization. I think every plan is different, depending your employer and what they cover. Good luck! Nathalie
TexasTerry 0 Posted September 18, 2006 It does depend on what options your individual group plan covers. I also have BCBS and WLS was an exclusion. (So, I was self pay) Terry
beachgirl 2 Posted September 18, 2006 I have Anthem BC/BS PPO and they didn't cover. I was selfpay and had mine done in Monterrey.
DAA 0 Posted September 21, 2006 I had BC/PS PPO in Pennsylvania. My surgery was covered 100%. I was approved in 7 days. No problems what so ever.
reeburgdon 0 Posted September 23, 2006 cpbaby, what did you find out? I have the same coverage, I work for UT Arlington. Another co-worker mentioned in passing that she was banded in April and that they covered it but I haven't had a chance to talk to her in more detail. Let me know if you hear something and I'll let you know what I hear from her. I'm hoping to get this done asap, I know when I was on the HMO they didn't cover it but now I'm on the PPO. esiller 0 Posted May 24, 2007 Hey there, I work for MDACC and have BCBS of Texas and yes they cover the surgery but of course you must met their requirements. I would suggest contacting Cindy Canino at (713) 799-9990 (Texas LAP-BAND Weight Loss Surgery Center Locations | True Results) She'll walk you through the process. BlackButterfly 0 Posted May 27, 2007 Hello, I have BCBS/UT Select through Univ. of Texas Med. Branch and they do cover it. I was banded 12-29-06. There is a 6 mo. diet requirement (you can use Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, L A Weight Loss, etc.) and there are a few other requirements. Also, you must meet your deductibles and out of pocket maximums for the year. But I was approved in less than a week once I met the requirements. The Cust Care Rep was very helpful when I called the Ins. Co. PM me if you need more info. Good Luck!!! Myrna
esiller 0 Posted May 29, 2007 Hello Myra, Thanks for the feedback. Would you mind sharing your experience with me. I'm a litte nervous and I'm wondering if I really should do something so permanent.
