Question To Old Timers

I had my vsg on 4/30/12. To date I lost only 32lbs. My start weight 210lbs and today 178lbs. I hear different stories with much bigger weight loss during a 3 mo. period. I feel like I doing somthing wrong. I joined MFP so I can keep a record of what I eat and how much. I am guilty of grazing a bit because I work 16hrs a day. Can anyone give me any advice. I am so frustrated. I also work two times a week and constantly on my feet a work.(I am in the nursing field)

I am not an old timer but wanted to comment. I hope you don't mind. I a, part of a weekly support group run by a psychologist who is very involved with obese people and WLS people. He said the number one reason people aren't successful with the sleeve, either losing weight or maintaining it, is because of grazing. So, my advice to you is to work on stopping that. It is a very slippery slope. Good luck to you!

I only add to really try and not snack!! Keep your water bottle near by and sip on that. Take time to eat your meals while at work. I always make sure that my lunch is a nice piece of fish, chicken or beef( well cooked), with spinach or green Beans that way I stay full longer. That helps me stay away from grazing.

And I always carry some Greek yogurt with me, just in case, I feel like a little something extra.

Up your Protein, drink your Water, exercise, lower your carbs, keep your calories in check and see if that helps!! we are here for you!

All the reasoning and advice you are seeing above is great.

I'd also like to add that the people you are seeing with the big numbers being posted also had much higher start weights/BMI.

I'm not sure what your goal is, but, I'm looking at 178 after 3months thinking that you really are probably right on track

As far as the snacking, I'd just plan it out, it's actually best for your body to eat very small amounts throughout the day. So what I would do is measure out Snacks to be eaten through ought the day & plan them every 2 hrs or so instead of eating them as a meal.

Your primary concern is your total daily consumption. Snacking is completely fine as long as it is planned into your diet. Own your habits

I started out with about 100 pounds to lose, and I lost on average 8 - 10 pounds the first few months (I lost about 15 pre-op as well). Don't worry, I'd agree you're doing fine. But the grazing will definitely slow you down later, so you want to nip that in the bud. Now's the time to be building really good, solid habits for when things get harder down the road!

You have received some solid advice here. I would add, please journal your food. You can't know how much you are eating unless you measure and document. It helps to see where and when you are going off plan and will be really helpful when you are at goal and trying to get into maintenance.
