Hiatal Hernia And Vsg At The Same Time

Recommended Posts

I had no idea Dr. Jossart would do that. He and Dr. Cirangle are my first choice if I have to self pay in the US. Can anyone elaborate on how to get hernia repair covered in the first place?

My hernia was quite large and I was also diagnosed with Barretts Esphocolius (sp?) so I had to get it fixed. I had no symptoms of heartburn because of the Barrett.

I'm guessing that anyone would be ale to get their I insuance cover it...? Especially if it is symptomatic, giving you reflux, heartburn, etc.

I had my VSG and HH fixed Tues Dec., 18th. It was pretty rough going for me because I couldn't keep any fluids so they kept me another nite. I'm not sure WHO is going to pay for that extra night but at that pont there was no way I could have gone home. I probably could have left the hospital and then went to an ER as I believe my ins would to pay it then, I'm still hoping I won't have to pay for second nights stay and that they'll code it under my hernia repair.

I am back at home as of last night and am able to finally get in my fluids without vomiting up anything.

I met with my current surgeon yesterday. I asked about hernia repair and gallbladdder. He said that in taking out the stomach is not a "clean" surgery. So he does not do hernia repair during VSG. Anyone heard that before? Same thing with gallbladder, he said not everyone has problems so he doesn't remove it during VSG.

Thanks notime, it's been so much easier. Today. The fluids are staying down well now. :-)

Erp, the stomach is very near the Esphogus. I don't get his objection, but I am not a doctor. My surgeon. Is very good so I trusted him.

I agree, I think is it weird. So many others get a hernia repair or gallbladder out at the same time. I've never had surgery and I want this to be my only one!

Yes this is what my surgeon said about my adominal hernia he said dealing w the stomach and other things in the abdominal makes you higher risk for infection .. So I'll have the VSG then two months later or three my abdominal hernia will be repaired

I had mine repaired at the same time and did just what you said. Unfortunately I'm in Texas so I can't recommend a doc. Good luck to her!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
