Anyone From Buffalo, Ny Out There?

Recommended Posts

I came close 2x however did not throw up. And I do not think it is possible to tear open what is left of your stomach.

When I get threw up my stomach felt like it was being ripped out as well...but don't worry its still there and I'm still alive lol. Didnt take long to get over it

I also have a fear of throwing up. Before surgery I told the anesthesiologist and nurse that I would need anti-nausea medication. They hooked me up with a patch placed behind my ear. Then while in the hospital they have me anti nausea Meds every few hours. However, My first day back home I ate a whole Popsicle and threw the whole thing up and continued to dry heave and throw up a few more times and into Friday. Called Friday morning they had me come in and Nicole sent me home with some Zofran that would dissolve under my tongue instead of having to swallow (which swallowing the pills was making me gag too). It worked wonders and I haven't thrown up or dry heaved since. I didn't even need to finish the prescription either! Side effects of the pain Meds can be nausea so Nicole suggested that I could take extra strength Tylenol for the pain instead of the loritab which I had gagged on and the liquid version was just as gross! Once the Zofran was in my system I was able to take the Tylenol. Good luck to you! Don't be afraid to speak up when you don't feel well or share your concerns! Take care!

It is good to go before surgery too. My pcp advised me to go while I was considering surgery. They had a PA there who talked she was very informative! I should see you there!

Another thing that also worries me about this surgery is the puking too. Not worrying of the actual throwing up part' date=' but the "what if my fresh new tubular stomach rips open from a forceful heave???" type worrying... now THAT is what scares me. What are the chances of that happening? Has that happened to anyone before? Erff...![/quote']

You will be fine.. :) I was throwing up right out of recovery and I was OK....the pain meds made me sick as ever..but trust me you will be just fine :)

Yay! The pre-op testing was really quick for me. I was in and out within and hour. Do you have to have a chest xray done too?

I do. Luckily I can have all my pre op testing here instead of more traveling. I know how to do ekgs! Too bad I couldn't do it myself at work. Lol. These are the final stages. I'm excited and so nervous.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
