ann48 18 Posted August 5, 2012 I had my Lap Band surgery in August of 2010 and I am having the band removed on Monday. I am also having a Gastric Sleeve done in October. My insurance is covering both the Lap Band removal as well as my Gastric Sleeve in October. I have Independent Health of WNY. The Lap Band removal is covered because it was considered a "failure". UTGal99 327 Posted August 5, 2012 I believe a lap band revision to gastric sleeve is considered one WLS procedure. They take the band out, let the stomach rest and heal and then convert you to a gastric sleeve in October. Insurance would be billed for the procedure in full at the time the revision is completed. I would call your insurance company just to get a clear understanding.
want2bthin 93 Posted August 5, 2012 I have United healthcare too and they consider them two procedures. There are two different procedure codes. I was approved immediately for the band removal due to complications. I was denied by them twice for the sleeve surgery. I appealed a third time to my employer and finally won. I am thrilled with my sleeve. What a major difference over the band. I wish you all the best in getting your approvals. If they give you any problems appeal. Don't give up you won't regret it.
