since my sleeve - 12/15/11, i feel more comfortable inside myself, more confident, happier, not self-conscious :)

i went to Kohl's this morning

was wearing simple new basic beige capris, with a purple short sleeved blouse. - i looked good - wow i would never had said that before - just being honest

i usually feel like the "heavy" person in the store, or wherever i am - not any more ;)

i looked at the full length mirror - who is that, is that really me? son of a gun there i stood, it was me

i feel healthier now that i've lost weight, most important benefit that we're all looking for

good luck with WLS

have a great recovery

enjoy your journey

kathy

i started out confined to a motorized chair or wheelchair....due to 2 back surgeries & doctor "wanting" to replace both my knees and one hip because of arthritis... i had been wheelchair bound for years...

i was 328 pounds...diabetic, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, asthma, and chronic fatigue to name a few issues.

talking to the psych doctor he asked me "what do you want to achieve by having WLS ? ... i said "better health, talk a walk with my husband"

when i started the process in November 2011 until surgery on May 2nd...i lost 34 pounds... so surgery date i weighed 294...

about a month ago, i started walking around my kitchen island ... then added down the hall and back... i have up'd my out of chair time til almost 7pm...

as of this morning i weigh 249....so down 45 pounds since surgery (13 weeks) and overall total of 79 lbs...

i also went for a walk down the driveway this morning with my husband !!! <3 ... a short walk but a walk none the less... life is great and getting better every day!

Reminds me of my Mom , she was not so lucky. She passed way to soon. Your success brought a tear and I am so happy for u. I started getting out of my car the way my mom did when her mobility started to go as a result of arthritis due to her weight. It scared me. She is my inspiration and she would want me to live a healthy life and not repeat what she did. So walk on!!! Soo happy for u.

Honestly (I'm about 8 weeks out) I'm very moody and temperamental. I'm hoping it's just a phase

About that moodiness - I was told that your fat cells also store a lot of hormones, so when you're losing rapidly that all dumps into your bloodstream, which can make you pretty darned moody, not to mention major stress on your body and major life changes. Hang in there, it gets so much better!

I'm just over 13 months post-op, and my life has changed so much! I now buy clothes when I really like something, not when I find something that fits reasonable well and doesn't look too bad. I don't have to settle any more. I've become extremely active - I took up running (who me? A runner??), started working with a personal trainer for strength training, and did a 10 mile hike today - was up at 5am to beat the crowds - I hike for the peace and solitude. I got a DEXA body scan as a "reward" for myself (also wanted to determine where I was at before working with the personal trainer. Amazingly, I'm in great shape, top 3-5% for my age group, depending on the various criteria, I was pretty thrilled!

I've completely changed how and what I eat. I still have a monster sweet tooth, but it's amazingly well controlled with high-protein, low-carb, as long as I stick to it! I've found some great blogs that are helping me find satisfying, delicious substitutes for those foods I'm having a hard time giving up entirely.

Overall, I'm so much more confident - I've always been a worrier and a people-pleaser, and now I have enough confidence in myself that I just don't care so much any more what random people think.

I love my new life - I bet you will too!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
