KikiCC 83 Posted August 4, 2012 It seems like one isn't enough. By midnight, if I am still awake, my tummy is growling and it feels like I am starving, so hungry. I just live through it, take sips of Water, and ignore it. However, its really uncomfortable. Maybe taking another Prilosec would help? Can I take two a day? I am 4 weeks out. I asked my dr for a prescription for prevacid to see if that would help. But when I went to the pharmacy, they said he had called in a generic form of Prilosec. Sigh. LouiseC 1,031 Posted August 4, 2012 I take omeprazole, 20mg, twice a day. Without it the heartburn is just too bad.
SkinnyOnMe 81 Posted August 4, 2012 The generic is just as good. Same active ingredient is the same dosage... just the fillers like chicken guts verses duck guts are different. And I totally understand ur feeling. I went a few days without anything and was up to 1300 cals because of it. So when I got it last night I tok 1 and 2 hours later I was still burningso I took another. I am going to ask my doc to write double the pill so I can do this as needed
Kabooboo 4 Posted August 4, 2012 I take 2 a day since about 1 week out. My doctor approved it.
MinaT 669 Posted August 4, 2012 I take two omaprazole a day, and I have for years. I had to switch to pepcid after surgery, because the other is too big, but I just switched back to the omaprazole because it works better and I can finally take that big pill down. I actually get prescription Omaprazole because it is cheaper with my insurance than buying over the counter.
Rootman 1,101 Posted August 4, 2012 Please make sure and ask the doc first, but a lot of times the OTC drug is half the dosage of the RX drug, I think OTC Prillosec is 20mg and RX is 40mg. My wife was on two 40 mg Prilosec a day so I know it can be done - but check with the doc first. There is some issues with Calcium uptake with Prilosec. traceyc 89 Posted August 4, 2012 The prescription prevacid was twice as strong as the otc so I took two for years. I found it worked better taking 1 every 12 hours. Be sure to clear with your doctor.
