How Do You Fight Your Old Ways & Habits?

Recommended Posts

Hi , am on my 8 month post op. 7 months of great feelings great loss and lots of energy. Went from 390 pounds to 256 But then things stalled and now I can eat much more, specially Pasta and rice. And am always hungry. I feel like am lost again and need to see the right path once more.

Any tips on how to refocus and fight those Bad eating habits again?

Am seriously frustrated and going off track

Well IMO, you should stay away from any high carbs while you are losing weight....carbs do not fill you up, which means you will empty faster, and desire to eat again....stick to protien and veggies....and dont forget your Water....

The best way to get rid of old bad habits is to replace them with good healthy habits...quote from my therapist...she suggest making a list of non-food related things you enjoy doing....and when you start thinking about your old habits, pull out that list to find something good to d...

It's gonna take willpower. There is a process called "The 5 Day Pouch Test" that has prove to be a great tool for people that have derailed their train.

You gotta dig down inside and decide, " I've had enough!!" like any other addiction, this is not gonna happen till you make up your mind & make it happen.

I have often suggested carrying around a picture of you at or near your highest weight. When you get tempted, bring out the picture and look at it.

Thank you pev and OT. I do eat meat but the second I hit a stall I change to carbs and it actually moves my weight loss again. Shocks the system I guess but the portions now are really scaring me. It's soo easy to eat in one sit.

And loved the self change advice. You both are 100% right . Thanks again . Need to be stronger

Now let me explain what I meant about staying away from high carbs....some carbs are good for you...like oatmeal and whole wheat items....those are complex carbs which means that they break down slower in the body than simple carbs like white rice and egg noodes and stuff...

My doctor recommends Kashii products because some are high in protien and complex carbs...I especially like a cup of the Kashii Go Lean Crunch with flax seed with a 1/2 c of light soy milk....that'll keep me full for atleast 3 hours...

One thing I have learned so far in this journey is that when it comes to my eating I must plan plan plan....be intentional about what you put into your body....mindless eating is no longer allowed...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
