I'm newer than you. I'm not going to say I'll never eat baked Lay's again. BUT...this past year (my fattest year) I had baked Lay's with lunch all the time and convinced myself that they were baked so I was cool. To me, they're a gateway drug. So I will try not to eat them.

bread is my favorite food group so I'm going to be faced with that problem soon- not sure how I'll handle it- some people do open face with wheat bread or low carb tortillas to get more valuable calories than chips or just a few I guess.

Again, no judgement here as I'll have the same dilemna soon.

Someone else had a great idea that I will share with you -- they slice up a cucumber and use that to replace crackers. It lets you eat the spreads with a healthier low carb choice.

I prefer salty to sugary Snacks, and using Lays would be a gateway for me. I am trying to avoid chips, and it is a struggle for me. I don't recommend using them.

Try dried plantains. They taste just like potatoe chips. You can find them in the produce section. Or even better, put some turkey pepperoni slices in the microwave on high for 1 minute. They come out just like little meat flavored chips.

The baked lays probably will not hurt your sleeve, but they are still a starch which is nothing but empty calories. It will cause a rise in blood sugar, which will force your body to release insulin into the blood, which promotes fat storage not fat loss.

If you are allowed, you might wish to switch to whole grain crackers. Crackers are a post-surgery love of mine. Fancy, uppity crackers at that (lol). There are a lot of really nice whole grain crackers that will help you feel full. I think the baked Lays will end up being a slider food for you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
