Any Tips On Getting Past A Weight Plateau?

Recommended Posts

I'm about 4 months post-op, down 45 pounds and 38 inches overall, which I'm thrilled about, however.....I am at least 2 weeks without ANY weight loss and I'm getting discouraged. Does anyone have any tips on how I can start losing again? Here is what I'm doing:

  • I'm exercising about 3 times per week - Cardio or strength training for 30 minutes.
  • Drinking about 24-32 ounces of Water per day (some days a little more / little less)
  • I try to drink a Protein Shake (with extra Protein powder) at least once per day, and then Beans, cheese, meat, nuts for the rest of the day to get my protein in daily. Very little to no carbs.
  • I am staying to 1/2 cup of food at a sitting.
  • Very little snacking in between meals - so only about 3 meals a day.
  • Vitamins, Calcium & Biotin daily.

Should I go back to liquid/puree phase of the diet? Drink more? More protein? I want to lose at least 30 more pounds by Thanksgiving, so any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Looks like you're working hard. Some of those stalls are inevitable, just stick with what you are doing and the weight will start to drop again at some point. Not sure what your overall calories are, but some complex carbs (oats, brown rice, Beans, etc) aren't bad and are good if you time them around your workouts. We all have our own sensitivity to carbs, just try and see what works for you. Not sure how often you are weighing, but I wouldn't weigh more than once a week, it will drive us crazy constantly watching the scale. Good luck and keep up the good work!

32 oz of Water is very little. My program wanted us getting at least 64 oz a day by the 3rd week post op. I would suggest you try to double your water.

yea, I agree with the water... when I was early out, I found that when I added more fluids I would lose more... but as aroundhky said, stalls are part and parcel of the process... just take your time, continue to do what you are doing and the scale will move again - try not to get discouraged; yea easier said than done, I know!

Good that you are taking measurements. I found that when I didn't lose weight on the scales, my body will lose inches instead... I quickly learnt that it was a win win situation! Try not to let your success be determined by numbers alone... there is a lot more to this weight loss-getting healthy malarky than just numbers!

keep up the good work! =]

You are doing everything right. There is no fix-it in this case but time.

I lost 50 pound in my first 4 months and then I hit some major stalls. Then one day, doing nothing different I lost 3 pounds in 3 days. I just have to adjust my thinking because I am of the "git-er-done" type of people.

You are losing inches during these plateaus and it might even be better for us in the long run. Two weeks is nothing. Try a month ;-)

If you like, up your Protein to 90 grams and do some long term exercise on the weekend like a hike or a bike ride that is over 7 miles with some hills on the bike and mountain on the hike. You will then see if your cardio and weight training is giving you what you need for results. Your body gets used to the same intensity. Up your reps and duration too.

Water water water!!! I am 7 months out, I wa in a 5 week stall. I upped my water to 12 cups a day 3 1 ltrs of Dasini, smart water or evian) and I list 4 pounds in 5 days. My body was holding onto it I guess. It sounds like everything else is good!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
