Any Relatively Young Wls Person Looking For A Buddy?

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm Sarah! I am about to start my freshman year at college, and I had my surgery 8 days ago today. I have already lost about 12 pounds so it feels good to see quick results!

Anyone interested in being a WLS buddy?

Hey Sarah I just had mine done on the 1st. I'm 21 years old so probably not much older than you. I'll be your buddy :)

That would be great! Was it August 1st or July 1st?

August 1st. They released me yesterday around 4:00. Was a little sore and could not sleep last night. Hopefully I'll be able to sleep a little better tonight

Oh okay! Yeah I was pretty sore when I got home too. I've been sleeping on our recliner and so it feels a lot better on the stretching feeling I get when I lay down. Last night was the first night I slept in a bed! Are you using the pain meds they gave you? Those really knocked me out.

I did when I first came home because I didn't sleep well in the hospital it knocked me out then. Later on that night I tried again and it really didn't do Anything. I walked around my house and had crazy gas pains. My bed is only a twin and my bf was sleeping in it so I tried to sleep in my moms bed and I was able to sleep for a good 3 or 4 hours but the pain meds didn't really do anything

Oh:/ Yeah my gas pains were bad too! I kept getting the hiccups and they hurt so bad. After the 4th or 5th day I think mine started to go away. Did you do any pre surgery counseling? I'm reading all of those forums and lots of people talked about how much easier it made the whole thing. Now i'm scared that Im going to screw it up or something, you know?

I only went to the required once a month for 6 months meetings with the dietician but it was nothing I hadn't already known. Speaking of hiccups I have them right now :/ I just keep reminding myself how much healthier I'll be in the end

Yeah, my doctor recommended it, but i didnt realize that it would probably help a lot! I do think im going to go to post op surgery though. Ughh, they are just so freaking painful! The part im most excited about is that people wont know the old "Sarah". Oh, I forgot to ask, but whats your name?

Well I had to do it for insurance purposes to be approved for surgery. I think I need to meet with the dietrician once in a while just to meet up with her.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
