Slippage??

Recommended Posts

Happy Weekend! I would like to hear from anyone who has experienced slippage. I'm only 2 weeks post-op, but I have heard of 2 people recently whose bands have slipped (both have had bands for several months). Has anyone here had slippage? Do the docs know why you had it?? What's your theory??

Thanks! You guys are da bomb!

Hi Surby,

I was diagnosed with a slippage last week, after being banded for 18 months. There are several factors that can cause slippage, so I guess I'll never know for sure, but the doctor reckons the main issue was I was overfilled for too long, which makes things difficult to go down and while sitting in the upper pouch, they cause gas, eventually expanding your pouch. She said a new band has been developed that is more flexible and hopefully, they'll start to see less incidents of slippage.

Good luck in your band journey

From what i have heard being overfilled for too long and frequent PBing and sliming can cause it. I just got a complete unfill for that very reason after suddenly not being able to swallow Water almost 2 mos after my last fill. I don't know what caused me to tighten up but I know if I didn't get an unfill I could of had a slip. I will now wait a month and get filled again, but I won't dare go as tight as I was before. I was at 3.2/4cc and I am thinking 2.5 might be better for the long term. I was PBing quite often so I feel lucky that my band didn't slip. I am hungry right now and may gain some weight back but at least I am protecting my band which I have only had for 6 mos! Hopefully they will come out with a better method in suturing the band in to prevent slips. I am self pay and having to repair a slipped band would have been devastating.

Surby, I was wondering how you are doing and thought about sending you an PM?

As you know, I had a slip right after surgery. It really is RARE! I only know of 2 others on the board who had a slip right away. There was a thread on it and I'll find it and send it to you. I'll really never know why I slipped so soon because I never vomited. But others had a lot of vomiting.

If you are worried about it, have your Doc do a fluoroscope. Just looking at the statistics, it is most likely you are still having post-op pain and not a slip. Some people recover SO FAST that we think we should TOO! But not everyone is running a mile in a week. Many people take a while to get over the surgery. Have you tried liquids for a few days to calm things down?

Are you talking to your Doc about your concerns? Keep us posted.

Take care!!

I'm not really having problems, but as you may remember, I was very nauseated and vomited some after surgery. I'm SO afraid that I'll have a slip (I'm self-pay). I just want to make sure I do NOTHING to jeopardize my band!! Thanks!!!

I'm no Doc but if you are feeling OK you probably didn't hurt anything. From my own experience and what I've read on the board "most" people know when they've had a slipped band.

Your weight loss is great at only just under 3 weeks.

take care

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
