How Long Until You Felt Normal Again

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I had my surgery Tuesday. I'm still so sleepy and weak. My head is foggy and I feel like I'm moving around so slowly. I am getting plenty of fluids in and I'm sure it is expected. I am just curious as to how long it took you to feel "normal" again after surgery. I plan to return to work next week (desk job). Is it possible to return to work in 6-7 days??

For me, it was about two weeks until I felt pretty normal. I was still taking a daily nap at about 2pm until then. I don't know if you will be able to work a full day with just one week under your belt. I know I would not have been able to do it.

I said to my husband at about day 4 or 5 post-op that if I had to return to work right now, I definately could. I know its different for everyone but I got over that foggy weak feeling pretty quickly. So my experience was that returning to work in 6-7 days was possible. Take the weekend to rest up if you're getting your fluids in and some Protein you could be well on your way back to work next week! ...Unless of course you have a physically demanding job ; ) I didn't ask what you do. Good luck to you!

I returned to work the next week, but I wouldn't advise it. I felt sick and was exhausted, and I left early a few days. I had to move quite a bit at work though, so maybe being at the desk won't be so hard. Good luck!

I had my surgery on Monday the 23rd of July and I am also a Dr. Kim patient. I was feeling pretty good by that Friday but the heat would take it out of me pretty quick. My post op appointment was Tuesday and I was supossed to go back to work Wednesday but his PA Nieves wasn't having it and wouldn't let me go back till Monday. I have a desk job also so I was pretty disappointed and she even wanted me to go half a days at first but I was able to convince her I would be fine full days. So Monday it is for me which in all honesty is probably better cause I have been going to class which is 4 hours and I am usually worn out by the time I am done. Good luck to you.

Everyone is different. You aren't going to know until after surgery. I took a nap every single day for the first two weeks. I had a drain for like 10 days. Do you know if you will have a drain and if so, when it will be removed?

First week I took about 2 naps a day. I also walked every day at least 20 minutes and I tried to walk 3 times a day each time 20 minutes, but I walked inside my house the first week and outside in my hard and around the neighborhood the second week. Your general overall health, your age, whether or not there are complications, all have something to do with it. I'm going on 49 years old, I have Lupus, but I was exercising twice a day for months before surgery and I have a lot of stamina. I also had a complication with surgery.

Truly, if you keep a positive frame of mind going into surgery, you should do fine, I know I was very positive and upbeat even after surgery, but I was still tired out.

Best of luck and the surgery was definitely worth it.

Everyone is different. BUT it will take a full 6-8 weeks to feel 100%. I went back to work at almost 3 weeks post-op but I felt absolutely miserable. I was so tired for that first week back and I too have a desk job. Just be careful and get your doctor to write that you need to take frequent breaks. I regret going back to work when I did. I felt okay and had energy but I just wasn't ready. Good luck to you!

I went to back a week after surgery and did fine. I actually welcomed the distraction since I was sick of being in the house for a week straight. I like my routine. It is difficult to make myself exercise right now since my energy is so low, but I haven't left early once.

We are stronger than we think!

I am seven days out today and I am still tired and taking a nap halfway through the day. On tired days I am taking two (Although I'm trying my best to taper down). I took 4 weeks off of work because I could and wanted to make sure I was as back to normal as possible before school starts, but I only work part time. I think if I was full time I would at least take 2 weeks.

I took one week off and felt pretty good though I did get a bit tired around noon for a few days, but as mentioned before everyone is different for me it was fine and I needed the distraction. Good luck in your journey

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
