Revised Goal Or Giving Up? W/ Pics

Recommended Posts

Hi' date=' my husband is a wild land firefighter and he and a friend took a class in which the BMI test was presented. Both he and his friend were considered morbid obese!!!! JOKE as they both work six days a week. And I mean workout , 3 mile mountain climbs with 45 lbs on their body, weight lifting, running. Their BMI was high because of the weight of their high muscle mass. Neither have hardly any fat on them..[/quote']

I have a really hard time with this. When I was younger I was very athletic. I was an amateur wrestler/body builder/martial artist.

I am fairly short, 5'6" but I packed a lot of muscle on this short frame. When I was competing I was about 155 and 4% body fat. Outside of competition I typically added 15 lbs to that.

So daily I was(according to BMI) overweight but never even close to obese.

Someone @ 6' tall can weigh 220lbs and still not be considered obese. In order for a man to be considered morbidly obese at 6' tall he would have to weigh 295lbs.

The man below(you may recognize him) had a highest weight of 240lbs and won Mr Olympia multiple times. His highest BMI was 32.5. Some 55lbs from morbidly obese.

LaCie, first, you have done a fabulous job! You are working out and taking care of yourself like never before I'd imagine. You're beautiful!

I think that the ten pound idea is great, but the better idea is counseling. We all are here for a reason and if we are all lucky we will have great success like you, but for all of us, this is a big change! Body image is such a hot spot for nearly everyone and when you make such a drastic change there is bound to be a mental shift that needs to be made. That's not a bad thing at all. I think with the counseling and your ever increasing goals for fitness (the run) etc, I think six months from now you'll be floating along on cloud nine with a fit body and mind :).

You are beautiful dear. Keep up the good work, wherever that takes you!

Hi All,

I was sleeved just over 6 months ago and I am struggling with the "Perfect" goal weight. Here is the deal...I have a history of failing every diet I have ever tried. (I know this is a lifestyle change not a diet..yada yada) I have a little success then I quit, that has been my life. I chose this surgery so I couldn't fail. Now I am feeling like a failure again. I have lost 80 pounds and feel amazing. I feel thin and beautiful and love wearing new clothes. I am about 20 pounds from my goal of 150 pounds but feel really good where I am at. My doctors still tell me I am overweight, my Nut wants me to increase my calories to lose more weight. I jog the soccer fields 4x a week and I think my weight is set at about 170-173 depending on the time of day.

My husband says I could maybe lose 10 more pounds but definately not 20. I don't know if he is being nice or telling the truth (I know we are having happier "married couple time").

Here is the point of my rambling. Given my history of giving up, am I in denial like I was before surgery about my weight? Should I try harder to lose more weight? I went from a 22 to an 8. I am 5'6 1/2. I just feel like I am never going to hit everyone's perfect number for me. How can I lose this much weight and still feel like a failure...like I am doing something wrong ALL THE TIME. I feel like I have been chasing this magic number for years and I am finally in a place I am happy with, but no one in the medical field thinks I am healthy yet (*cursing stupid BMI chart*).

My question to you all is have you struggled with the perfect goal number? Have any of you adjusted your number up? Should I trust the doctors/NUT and increase my fitness to 6X a week to lose more weight?

I am attaching my before pic (never been shared before) and a pic taken with my amazing hubby this weekend for a visual reference.

***Note to pre-sleevers*** My sister is a photgrapher and insisted she do a shoot the weekend before my surgery. I was crying I was so embarressed. Now I am really grateful to have these photos. Have a friend or family member do them...you will be glad you did later.

Do NOT underestimate your sleeve and what you can do with it!! I too am 5' 6.5" - I weigh 148 this morning, I've gained a few lbs due to all the sweets at our family reunion (a week at the beach) and we've had quite a bit of company this summer. My doctor's goal was 150 and I wanted to be five lbs under that. Initially my goal was a size 8, but I was there in five months and knew I could keep going. I never ate sweets, nothing fried until I reached 145. I would not increase food, to give losing a kick in the rear I'd up my Protein and Water (or tea) and I'd almost every single time start losing again. I got down to 132 at one time and upped my calories at that point because I was too low. I'm comfy at 143 - 146. I remember being at 170 and thought if I never lost another lb, I'd still be happy, but I was certain I could do more!! I'd encourage you to keep going. I really never thought I could weigh 140 something and not look like a stick, but it's a good weight!!!!! I say GO GIRL!!!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
