Pre-surgery Testing

Recommended Posts

I am sure this isnt the same or everyone, but what kinds of pre-op testing did you guys have to go through? Is this done prior to insurance approvial or before the doctor gives you the ok to have the procedure?

Thanks so much,

Carol

I did a barium swallow, psych eval, 6 month pcp diet before insurance approval, then after approval I had to do all my pre-op blood tests and ekg.

For my insurance to cover, I had to:

1. Get a referral letter from my PCP.

2. Get one psych eval.

3. Go see a nutritionist one time.

4. Get a letter of medical clearance from my PCP (this was right before surgery, and he did an EKG and chest x-ray.)

That's it. I think I had it a lot easier than most people on this board. My husband's insurance coverage is amazing. We have BlueCross through Pepsi, and they cover everything. During Easter weekend, I had severe Migraine headaches, to where I was blacking out. Weirdest thing because I had never had those before. Ended up going to the emergency room 3 times that weekend, (second and third time from A VERY severe spinal headache) found out I had a cyst in my brain, saw a neurosuregon and neurologist etc, MRIS, CAT Scans, all that stuff, and all I've had to pay out of that some $30,000 total bills was $300 for the ER visits. Pepsi's great. I'm going to miss it when my husband joins the Air Force this month.

I was self-pay, but my doc still required a psyc. eval., nutritional assessment, sleep apnea test, ekg and blood work.

My insurance only required the psych eval. and dietician consult, but my surgeon required sleep study, ekg, egd, pulmonary function test, lab work and chest x-ray. I am glad these test were in place - I now know I have sleep apnea and the egd revealed that I have an inflamed esophagus and stomach (which I am now treating). I say test away especially if insurance covers it. In the long run it can only benefit you!! Good Luck!!

Why do they do a sleep study and how long do you have to be there? I cant imagine sleeping infront of people...and I cant imagine sleeping away from my son. He would flip out!

( I feel quite normal) I had a nutrionist appt and will have to have a blood draw two wks prior to surgery. No other test. Its the pysc thing thats wearing on me! I want to get this done, no surgery date until I am done with the pysc Dr.!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
