I'm three weeks out, and recently my skin surrounding my incisions itch something terrible. My incisions don't itch at all, but the skin in between; especially around my belly button...pure torture! Anyone else experiencing this?

I've never had surgery, but my wife itched something terrible for weeks after her laparascopic gallbladder surgery.

I was told to take the steri-strips off to alleve the itching. Itching is also part of the healing process.

With previous surgeries and working in a hospital I can tell you that -- itching means healing (as long as it isn't ***** or smelly or infected looking)!

Yes I had something similar to hives around the incisions and a few other spots.

It was the worst part of this whole experience and was attributed to the betadine used during surgery. Took Benadryl and used hydrocortisone. I had it for about a week and it is much better now.

I was told under no circumstance to take the steri-strips off until they fell off naturally on their own. Strange to have such opposite instructions.

I am itchy too! I know it's just because it's healing (Ever had a big cut before - they itch as they're getting better) but it drives me nuts too!

I heard the same thing about the steri strips- to not remove them. I also work at a hospital and am a nursing student, and we always instruct our patients to let them fall off naturally. It's not my incisions that itch. It's everywhere around them, especially my belly button!!!!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
