Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Recommended Posts

oh, Amy, thanks so much for the reply! I have been keeping up with you surgery and I read that you had some difficulty with the hernia repair. I am so glad you are better and even going back to work already!

I feel so much better with your reply. I will talk with Susan. Did you get to meet Susan? What did they give for "pain meds"? I just want some Versed so I don't remember anything, ha ha. Looks like you were off for a month.....what would it have been like for you if you had to go back after 2 weeks?

I didn't have too much problem with food sticking in my throat as with medication capsules. I had a hiatal hernia repair and I feel this was the main culpret but the surgeon doesn't agree. If you surgery was recently maybe you still have some swelling. I think it takes 6-8 weeks to be able to tolerate most foods. Now 3 months out and I can eat anything. Hope this helps.

Hi I am Barb RN for 37 years now working Hospice. Sleeved on 8-21-13. Hard time yesterday but I was not taking anything for pain or nausea, you know us nurses we want to be in control of things like" I don't have pain". Was constipated but Mirlax took care of that. Today I made myself eat every two hours as I was having +10 pain which I identified as empty stomach /gas/spasm.Also put myself back on Ibuprofen, tylenol, and zofran. Spasms are now much improved. I try to get 3 0z of greek yogurt, with Protein Powder in every 6 hours, with plain greek yogurt 3 oz every two hours. I am also catnapping most of the day and night. My calories are under 700 a day. I am more hopefull today. I too had a lap assist vag hyst and that recovery was way easier than my sleeve. By day 5 post op I was out and about , but this sleeve surgery is really kicking my rear. Much more involved recovery. What's a stomach as compaired to a uterus I thought? Well, I must be honest, this is way more intensive, trying to figure out what is causing the discomfort, managing Constipation, gas, trying to get the right amount of Protein and low calories. Fatigue, and nausea is a real factor in recovery which the hyst did not present. Also your sense of smell is hightened, and things do not taste quiet right initially. This is my experience and everyone will be different. Am I happy I had the sleeve?, much more today than yesterday, as I was really sick. I am hoping I can go back to work in 2 weeks, but I am not going to push myself, I learned a long time ago I come first before the job.

Hi Barb, hang in there. You'll start to feel better each day post op. However, I would not take that ibuprofen so early in recovery too much for your little banana to handle I think at this stage. Sometimes being nauseated can be a sign of being full. Are u measuring your food. I had surgery on 7/8/13 I'm just getting where I can eat more than 2 oz and there are days when I still can't get that much in at a sitting. But it will get better!

Dr rx'd the ibuprofen, seems to work and my little tummy seems to do better with it, than without? I am a little worried as it seems I can do 3-4 oz without any problem. In fact I am so hungry 2 hours after eating,my stomach is growling and I have hunger pains. No nausea today, no zofran at all. My concern is I need to eat every 2 hours and it is not head hunger but stomach pangs of hunger. If I keep my stomach full I do not get nauseated or gassy. Seems wierd, but I am keeping my calories under 600/day, with 68 gms Protein per day. You are doing really well looks like you have lost lots of weight. how often do you need to eat?

Compared to newbie WLS pt's that would be a no on lots of weight lost. But I'm doing ok for a revision WLS. I had a band before the VSG. We lose slower than first timers. Anyway so far 25 lbs starting weight 240 cw 215. Early on I didn't eat much at all I barely made 300-400 calories a day. When I thought I was hungry I made sure I drank Water first and

made sure i'd taken my PPI every am. There's no doubt you're still making gastric acid. I was told the acid will make you think you are hungry so you want

to keep that at bay. To tell the truth my hunger is controlled just like they said it would be. I try to stick to this schedule Breakfast , lunch, dinner and 2 Snacks that include protein. Try to keep it simple and drink water Before each meal don't drink right after. Hang on in there!

I love nursing. I am cardiac cath lab pacu nurse since 2005. I have done LTC, psych, med surg, and cardiac.

I am pre surgery. Not sure what I want. My doc says sleeve will give me a good lost but rny is better due to my BMI of 55%. So next office visit is final decision day. Plus my insurance has a 6 month supervise diet.

I love the forums! It helps take the edge and worries down. The success motivates me.

Hi Shelcy, welcome. Sounds like you have time to make up your mind on which surgery to have. Take your time do the necessary research needed to make an informed decision. I like my sleeve,I'm just saying.

Hi my name is Janice, I've been a RN for 10 yrs. LVN for 7 years and was a CNA for 7 years. I started when I was 2.

I have worked pediatric , public health, hospice telephone triage, nursing home and currently a MDS coordinator for a nursing home.

I was sleeved July 24 th lost 12 lbs preop and 16lbs post op. I am a revision from lap band and have had several episodes of sliming. Not sure why. , I'm starting to get worried I also have some post nasal drip so I thought maybe that is why. Does anybody start coughing after a couple bites of food. I usually stop eating trying to listen to my body?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
