Hey Tammy here- RN for 8 years- 7 of them psych- sleeved 2/2011- great first 2 years then I had to start putting forth more effort- what a ride it's been- losing my job in jan so hoping that stress doesn't get me off track- I'd like to encourage other sleevers- hopefully me supporting others will keep me on track - I really wish everyone well- it's NOT a quick fix but a tool- manage it well, listen to your sleeve, and you will succeed- God bless

2bethin11- I'm so sorry to hear about your job loss. What star are you in?

I am in NH and the hospitals around here have quite a few open positions.

How long were you out of work for?

My Dr said 5 weeks, due to the strenuous job.

Does that sound right?

OMG this is just what I was looking for. I'm a RN, just beginning the process. Any floor nurses out there? How much time off work did you need?

My surgeon said 4 weeks...I was off for 6 (the extra 2 were my own decision). I'm a staff nurse. I'm back to work now...survived my first 8 hour shift, and my two 12 hour shifts (days). I start my 12 hour nights tonight...hoping they go well.

I'm happy I've found this group. I'm in need of support and nurses are the best. I'm an RN and have worked in Public Health (PHN) for 16 years and 5 years before that in Peds. I'm 44, married, have 2 active kids I want to keep up with. I had lap band in 2010 and I'm not happy with it. I can't find my green zone. I'm either hungry or the band is too tight. Ick. I'm started the process to have the sleeve and so relieved my clinic is on board with me proceeding this route. It's frustrating and embarrassing to start over, but I want this. It's time for me. We give and give and give some more. It's exhausting and it's time for us. I'm in the Mpls area of MN. Anyone else been through band to sleeve or live in MN. I look forward to this group. Thanks and Merry Xmas.

I am a RN in the operating room and I was sleeved on 12/18/14. I have 3 three children. I am having problems getting my Protein. In Feb I will be changing to night shift I am a little nervous. I can't wait until Friday when my puree stage starts. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas

@wrightle; Have you tried the clear Isopure. They taste horrid, except coconut (to me... but I eat coconut snowballs)... but they don't take up any more room than Water and they have 40 g Protein / bottle.

Hi, I'm Terosia. I've been a nurse for 27 years, mostly in high risk labor & delivery, Antepartum and postpartum. Currently, I do case management with a company that does prenatal and postpartum home visits. I was sleeved on 12/17. Down 36 pounds so far. I'm starting to tolerate things a little better, getting used to my new self one day at a time. A couple of setbacks was an opened incision which has now closed and an infection, H. Pylori, currently being treated and continued bradycardia. I'm going to the doctor today to address this. Not yet meeting my minimum intake of Water or Protein, but I'm doing significantly better than last week, making slow but steady progress. Praying everyday that I continue to have success with what I feel has been a tool and a gift.

I was sleeved 12/17. I also have 3 kids. Meal times are challenging but doable with a supportive spouse on your side! It gets better, just hang in there.

Thanks Wrightle for sharing, your wording was awesome, sounded more like a glitch than a hurdle, you will do well! I can tell by your optimistic narrative.

Hey all!

I'm a nurse in Sydney, Australia. I am pre op at this stage looking to get done in October 2015. I currently work in a sub-acute ward with mainly aged care patients. However I would love to be working in acute care nursing again but have lost the confidence that I'd have the energy and the drive needed for this area. I am hoping that after getting sleeved and I begin losing I'll get it back and be able to work in acute wards again.

Exciting, I too am a nurse, hoping for surgery end of Feb or March, I know what you mean as far as energy, I work on a surgical floor, day shift and it's so busy. I already know I'll have some challenges getting fluids in, pros- typical day I will loG 11000 steps on a pedometer

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
