Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

I'm having my surgery tomorrow at 730 am. I consider the weight at my first visit with the surgeon to be my start weight. I didn't even see the Nutritionist for another 3 weeks after that appointment

Hello,

I am a LVN and currently a RN student. I am new to this site and I have tons of questions. I recently went to a Bariatric Seminar and most of my questions were answered however I still have sooo many more.

When will my official weigh in be? Will it be with the nutritionalist or with my PCP who will be referring me to see the Nutritionalist? Or will it be once I see the surgeon!? I am Soo confused lol.

I had my insurance verified at the seminar and I do know that I will have to see the nutritionalist 3 times once a month for 3 months. What does this appt generally consist of?

Please HELP.

Thanks In Advance~

I think everybody's experience is a little different depending on where you get the surgery and the requirements of your insurance. For example, I was only required to do a 3 month medically supervised diet instead of 6 months like I know a lot of people have had to do and I only needed to have one meeting with a NUT. My insurance didn't require a psych eval, but the center that does the surgeries required one for everybody regardless. So I think your best bet will be to call the place that held the seminar to clarify what is needed during your sessions so they can write a good report to send to your insurance, that's what I had to do for all of my stuff. I even had to spell out for my PCP what he needed to write up, lol!

Did you have any issues with lifting? I work in ICU so not many of my patients are mobile and do a lot of boosting and turning. I'm going to be off for about 2.5 wks and nervous about hurting myself.

I had 3 months with nutritionist for insurance but I saw surgeon first. Weight was done at each Dr visit and nutritionist visit. Some insurance require a certain BMI to be meet before approval. I had a 35 BMI but because I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and string family history diabetes insurance approved. I had to NOT lose weight during three months nutritionist visit. I know sounds crazy but insurance may have not approved if I dropped below 35 BMI. Ask a lot of questions we are all different.

Good luck! Us nurses are a tough breed I am sure you will do fine.

My dr said no lifting greater than 15 lbs. for a couple weeks. I still had a sore spot on abdomen so I was extra careful. I would recommend and abdominal binder so help support you abdomen and then use all your resources to help yourself with patients. But binder was very helpful!

I guess you are having you surgery today... I came home yesterday. It has not been too bad. Just initially when I came up from recovery. Got up to go pee and it made me nauseas and have the dry heaves... All my pain was right under my diaphragm ( also had a hiatal hernia repaired). After some meds and a 3.5 hour nap I woke up feeling like a whole new person. Pain was manageable. I was up walking the halls. So all in all everything has been good. My only complaint is this awful taste in my mouth makes everything taste yucky. Also spur worried about going #2, (maybe TMI), but it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Thank god for that. Only took pain meds once since I've been home.

I would like to join this group. I've been an RN for over 27 yrs. I work for a major insurance company as a supervisor of utilization managment. My surgery is scheduled for August 12. I'm so excited to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. My job is very sedentary and I struggle with remembering to drink while I'm working.....hopefully will get in the routine. Good luck to everybody just starting their journey.

Hi all! I'm a NICU RN and was sleeved on May 14,2014. HW 235. SW 225. Today am 188. Having issue with milk products. Never been lactose intolerant before. The bloating and nausea is unreal. Has taken me 24 hours to get over a Greek yogurt! Any suggestions to deal with this? I get a lot of my Protein from dairy :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
