How long are the B-12 shots good for? How often do you have to go back and get one?

I like this idea as it would eliminate one pill for me to take. Thanks for the information!

I take 2500 mcg twice a week and my labs are great. I'd rather have a sublingual twice weekly than a needle!

I take one sublingual tablet every morning at 500mcg and my labs are perfect.

You can not take too much. You absorb better with the shots you only absorb about half the B12 orally. My surgeon said to take it 2-3 times a week,

B-12 is a Water soluble Vitamin, which basically means if your body gets too much, then you just pee out the excess. If won't harm you if you have too much of it, only if you have too little. Now there are some Vitamins like Vitamin D that are fat soluble which means if you have too much, it gets absorbed into fat cells and can cause major issues, but B12 isn't going to hurt you if you have to much.

Thanks guys. I feel better about taking it now. Honestly, I like the taste of it too. This one dissolves fast too.

Hope you are all having a great day!

Ditto for me, per my MD & Dietician.

The good thing about B-12 is that you can't really over do it. It's one of those Vitamins that any excess flushes from your system.

Our doc will give you a shot on your visits, or write an Rx, To give them to yourself once a month. That's what I do, well my husband anyway. It is a muscle shot so not hard to do at home. Hardest part is getting all the Fluid out of the little container lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
