Rybecca20, there is a huge group of aug sleeveres here http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/38113-august-sleevers-where-yas-at/ we vary from no preop to 30 day preop I believe. Its just a matter of the doctor and what they prefer.

I have seen other people who are not required to do a preop diet. Every surgeon is different!

I am August 9th my BMI is just under 32 my coordinator told me to drink 3 shakes and a salad with lean Protein for dinner starting tomorrow then starting Sunday only Clear Liquids until surgery. She said there is a big difference in people's healing and how bad they feel after operation if I follow the diet I should do fine. I am going to really try to stick with it but I am going to starve.

I'm getting sleeved a day before you Skyjack1 :) and I'm following a very similar pre-op diet: 2 Slim Fast shakes and 1 Lean Cuisine meal (or anything below 300 cals.) daily, but I've been switching it up a bit so I don't plateau. And yes, like MamaMelly said, every surgeon is different and it really depends on the person too. I was told I only need to lose 5% of my weight and can be scheduled just a week before the day of surgery since I started at 204 lbs. Good luck to you!

Where are you having it done?

I chose to have it done at the Obesity Control Center in Tijuana by Dr. Ortiz. It's a Center of Excellence. At first, I thought that's just some fancy slogan they throw around but I recently found from my research that centers of excellence highly rank based on certain standards compared to other places. I haven't heard anything bad about the OCC or Dr. Ortiz. I can definitely share my experience with you when I return, if you would like.

Different doctors have different required plans. I did not have to do a pre-op diet either, although I did do a few days of full liquids to get used to it. The only thing my doctor required was 24 hours of clear liquids. Surgery went great and I'm doing well =)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
