It's been six weeks since my surgery and I have only lost 20 lbs. According to myfitnesspal I average anywhere from 500-700 calories per day, about 40 carbs and between 80-110 grams of Protein. How is it possible that I am not losing faster? Sunday I started working out. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical two days straight. The scale didnt budge. I am even getting in about 70 ounces of Water. I should have lost some water weight at least. Nothing. IIt makes me want to throw in the towel. What's wrong with me?

I was about the same lost at 6 weeks out. Then I started losing more. I would keep doing what you're doing, maybe just increase water and exercise. Some people lose slower than others! Don't give up!

I was told to expect an average of 2-3 pounds weight loss per week so you are about average in your loss so don't get discouraged. I would up the amount of calories and cut back on carbs. You don't want your body to think you are starving and you don't want to get accustom to such a low calorie intake that you can't sustain it over time. Eat more and exercise more. If you lose the weight too fast you risk medical issues and flabby skin…don’t worry about the scales how are you feeling and looking? Do you have more energy? Are your clothes looser?

When my body takes the time to readjust (stall..lol) the scale stays exactly the same to the .100.Morning noon and night. And I do jump on the scale every 10 minutes so I really know this as a fact.

It can stay like that for quite a while too.....and then I drop quite a few pounds.

Every time I restart the exercising thing I stall for longer than 10 days....not a .1 down,nothing.

Do what you say you are doing and the weight will come off....be patient.

Unless you're gaining, don't worry about it. Think about this: WITHOUT the sleeve would you be losing at all? You're doing everything right and the scale WILL move.

6 weeks. 20 pounds. You are doing GREAT. Stop second guessing your body. You didn't gain a pound a day, you're not gonna lose a pound a day. In fact, healthy weight loss is often defined as around 2 pounds a week. That would put you at 12 pounds for 6 weeks. You should stop comparing your weight loss to others and start to enjoy it, you are doing well! 20 pounds is 20 pounds is 20 pounds. That's a small kid! A small dog! 2 cats! Why would you throw in the towel when you're SUCCESSFUL?

I know it's hard that the scale isn't moving by TONS each week, but at least this way you will have a lower chance of loose skin. It's healthy to lose slow too!

When was the time you lost 20 lbs before surgery? It will happen and BTW, you really can't throw the towel in because the procedure is not reversible. So sit back, put the scale in the trash (LOL) and enjoy the ride. Focus on creating healthier eating habits with exercise. This is a life change. Measure your body and watch the inches disappear. You are doing great! :)

Don't let your mind play tricks on you, it will try to tell you that this is not working, and that you need to give up. DON'T LISTEN! You can do this! You are stronger than you think you are,

I recomend that you go to ABC's website or if you have an iPad download the app, and watch Extreme Makeover weight loss (Nayla's episode) I for one found this episode had so much insight into how we view ourselves & how much more we are capable of than we think. I really believe that it could only help.

Thanks, it's good to hear I am not alone. I am going to have to work on being patient. I wish I had kept the surgery to myself.

I do have more energy and my clothes are looser. Although I am in the same size. I should be more thankful and I know I sound like a brat but I guess I had expected to lose more. :-)

I seem to stall for weeks at a time. I guess that's why it's called a stall. I really need to throw away that stupid scale.

I lost 50 lbs on weight watchers 2 years ago although I gained it back a year later. Probably not the best example. I just remember losing a little each week. Which is why I am such a brat. I know I can't really throw in the towel. Haha since it not reversible but it makes me want to revert back to old habits. At this point maybe the extra calories will break this stall. Lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
