I see a lot of posts about people wanting to keep their surgery a secret or just hush hush in general; I was one of those people too! As my surgery date gets closer I feel like telling everyone! Ha im nervous about the actual surgery but way more excited than anything else...am I the only one?

I never kept mine a secret due to being so excited about finally getting some real help. My surgery is 8/15/12 and 8days before my 37th birthday. Talk about a good gift to me!

I told family and close friends, and a few at work. However, I told my boss and team 2-days before my surgery. When I returned from work, everyone knew....lol

I did not tell my supervisor until a week ago and by that time I had already completed my FMLA paperwork.

I told and still tell everyone! I was excited about it and really didn't feel that any negative remarks would affect (effect? I never know which one to use....) me. If someone hadn't been honest with me about it I never would have gotten my sleeve.

I kept mine a secret till post surgery. I did not want people trying to talk me out of it. Post surgery I tell anyone and everyone that asks or will listen. One woman here at my work was inspired and has surgery and lost a lot of weight too, two others are in the planning stages.

OBESITY KILLS, it's not just about "looking" fat, it's all about having a better, more fit life with less overall health risks and finally enjoying life not chained down by our body weight.

"Not chained down by our body weight..."

Love it! I've been telling folks I've lost six 10-pound bags of potatoes! No wonder I had trouble getting around!

I told everyone I came across! I wanted as many opinions, and stories, as possible to help me make my decision! The only thing that sucks about it now is that every single person now asks me, every time they see me, "how much have you lost now?", "how are you feeling?" It really sucks actually. Sometimes I feel like screaming out....JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!

Oh man, I'm not looking forward to this. I am a relatively private person and do not feel like answering these types of questions to folks who are not close to me. I lost 50 lbs a few yrs ago and it was like an open invitation for EVERYONE to ask me about my weight. People who never engaged me in conversation prior to weightloss were now asking me very personal questions. This time around I'll try to come up with some quick, curt reply that equates to 'nunya' (none ya business)!!!!

I believe that so many people's choice not to tell anybody about their decision, is directly tied to numerous failed weight loss attempts, many bad decisions & the perception that they are incapable of making a rational, sound decision about weight loss. I read over & over "I'm afraid what so & so will think" or " so & so will give me crap over my decision".

It's been my policy that if some one asks me, I'll tell them the truth. I find most often that they've heard horror stories about RNY, and associate all WLS to this. I have also found that when I take just a couple minutes to explain the difference, and the HUGE difference in complication rates, they seem to be relaxed and more accepting knowing this is not a snap decision on my part & that it was thoroughly researched.

I told my boss and my dad (and of course my wife and children). Other than that, I felt it was no one elses business. I have seen a lot of negativity and I just didn't want to deal with it. When people ask me how I have lost so much weight, I just tell them Portion Control, lots of Protein, lots of Water, and no midnight Snacks anymore. I'm not lieing to them because that is really what is going on.

Good luck on your surgery and congrats on your decision!! :)

I don't like being the center of attention or discussion, so beforehand I kept it on the downlow, but afterwards, when anyone asks me "what I'm doing" I usually tell them. It's just a matter of what you're comfortable with. I didn't want everyone looking at me with their microscope waiting for something to happen. That's just me though ;)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
