I need a summary of slippage signs!

Recommended Posts

I was banded 05/16/2006 and everything has been WONDERFUL! I have lost 32 pounds already!

But, one morning a few days ago I woke up and felt an uncomfortable feeling in the front between my rib cage and the mid back between my shoulder blades. It somewhat feels like the soreness right after being banded. Anyway, I seem to vomit most everything I eat except fluids. And then yesterday when I ate, I got this overwhelming nauseous (SP?) feeling that made me really vomit (not from being "stuck" or eating too much, but from feeling nauseous). Then, I just ate some salmon (which I eat every day) and got the same overwhelming nauseous feeling and really vomitted--again, not from being "stuck" or eating too much but from feeling nauseous. I feel a bit dizzy now.

NOTES--It has been several weeks since I had a fill and have been fine since. I dont feel sick inbetween these bouts. I dont have a fever or any other symptoms.

I have read MANY threads about slippage, but does any one have an iodea what is happneing to me OR a summary of what the signs of slippage are?

Any help would be greatly appreciated it...

On another note---isn't the BAND great!!!!!!!!!

Jeanne,

I can only speak to my experience on a slipped band. I've heard some people have no idea their band slipped.

But for me it was like swallowing razor blades. I couldn't swallow anything, not even my spit. It hurt all the time in my stomach area, deep in, not the port area. I was nauseous all the time, not hungry at all, weak. I was on an IV so I wasn't eating much besides a few bites of Jello. It is my understanding that being too restricted can feel very similar.

I'd really encourage you to stay hydrated, sip as much Water as you can. Whatever the problem, being dehydrate can make things much worse.

Call you Doctor right away. They can do a fluoroscope and see if you have a slipped band. There is no need to suffer wondering what is wrong.

I've also read that you can get more restriction even 7-10 days after a fill, so may that is what you are experiencing.

Keep us posted, I know how scary it can be.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
