Hell!! I am gearing up for the sleeve, but im sooo scared of low blood

sugars and wls. I have been type 1 for 21 years, and pumping for 13 years. I have tried every diet and working out. My dr suggested the sleeve.

Hey there, part of the reason im getting this surgery is because of my risk for type 1 diabetes. My dad got it in his early 20s hes 50 now and pretty much doesn't care about his health anymore because he figures he's gonna die early anyway:( I don't want to be like that and neither should you! We need to eat healthy due to our special circumstances

Hi, I'm late to the party but wanted to reply. I've had T1DM for 18 years, been pumping for 10. I'm having sleeve surgery on 8/21 and have the same fears about low bgs. Im doing my 2 week pre-op diet now and have had some lows, but nothing a little juice couldn't fix. Do you have a CGM? I do, and don't wear it frequently now due to site issues, but plan to more once I'm back at home after surgery, to help catch lows before they happen.

I am getting a new pump and a cgm for the first time. Please post after your surgery. I'm having some insurance issues, but im still hopeful ill get sleeved. Ive been trying to lose weight for sooo long. Im ready for this journey. Good luck with your surgery nwxt week ;-)

I've been type 1 for 20 years. Had the sleeve in December last year. I seem stuck at around 50 lbs lost which is better than nothing but I'm really furstraed. I lost really fast and then I haven't lost anything in months.

nslnsweetie-Sorry to hear about the plateau, that stinks. I'm just over 3 months out, but have found that I need to watch my carbs even more than I did before the surgery to keep the weight coming off. I try to eat no more than 30-40g carbs per day. It has definitely helped my A1c though, it was 6.2 at my last appointment, down from 8.5 before surgery.

Hey there guys! I too have type 1 and been pumping for 8 years now, diagnosed at 18. I am very worried of lows as well. I had actually thought about doing the bypass but my endo said it would be very difficult to control sugars with that,so I stuck with VGS. No date set yet, but they told me it should be early January!! Very excited and nervous as well. I am so glad I have other type 1 sleevers to talk to on here!

Wow! What a great A1c. That's fantastic. My goal is 30 carbs a day but I'm somewhere around 35-40 by the time its said and done. What kinds of things are you eating? I've clearly got some serious carb addiction issues because I stil crave them...

I ended up cutting my basals in half when I started my preop week of clears that was really helpful. My endo gave me "permission" to drop each basal by 10% if I was getting lows so I was able to resolve it pretty quickly. Glucose tabs as much as I hated them did the trick for me.

Thanks, I was so happy it dropped so much. I would like to try to conceive when I get to goal and my endo recommends being below 6.0 to do so. I eat mostly meat (lots of chicken and eggs), cheese and a tiny bit of veggies. Snacks are nuts, beef Jerky and the occasionally Protein bar. I crave carbs a lot too, still. If I want bread, I use half a low carb flat bread, those are only 3.5 g carbs for a half. I like having cheese and crackers, so I buy these really thin wafer crackers that are 7g carbs for 6 crackers.

Good luck with surgery! I haven't had too many problems with lows, thankfully, and can fix pretty easily with a few glucose tabs. I did have some really delayed lows after working-out (like 8-12 hours later), but my CDE figured out a basal pattern to help fix that, and I just set it on days where I'll be exercising.

I've been type one for 15 years, sleeved in July and down 54 pounds., really gotta watch the carbs but I'm down and halfway to my goal. When I get lows I eat my sugar pills and feel better. My a1c went from 9.4 to 7.3, love my sleeve, I also cut back on insulin from 60 units on N and R daily to 3-7 units every other day, if that. Thank goodness! Good luck all

Thanks for sharing,it helps to get ideas for sure. I have dropped 35 pounds in the last year and a half on my own. Had some lows after losing that weight so I am worried about it with rapid loss. My A1C was 6.2 last month. My basal is at about 42 units a day. I know that will change a great deal after surgery. Thanks again.

Hello ladies!! I'm scheduled for surgery in may. I'm terrified but I'm ready for this. @2012resolution Ive had type 1 22 years. Ive had 2 healthy pregnancies and no comlplications. You can do it!!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
