Post-Operative Setback

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 7/25. The next day I had my upper GI test and failed as the Fluid would not go down my esophagus. I am still in the hospital. I've been on steroids for several days to reduce the swelling in my esophagus. I spit up a lot of saliva and foam. The doctor won't allow me to start on fluids until I can stop spitting up. Has anyone had this problem? I'm desparate for some answers. Thx.

My fluro didnt want to go in and I did vomit it all up.Had to do it again and it took 2 hours of walking up and down for it to start going down.I was spitting Foamy blood for 24 hours. The next day only foam and day 3 I was fine but couldnt even sip anything when I went home.Sipping 5 ml a time every half hour over the next 2 days and by day 5 I was ok.

You must be very swollen and the cortizone will help with that. You are in the best possible place you can be at the moment, the hospital.Just try to relax and sleep a lot.

Please keep us informed on how you are doing.Hope you are better soon.

I never expected to be in the hospital this long. But you are right, I'm in the best place I can be. Thank God for the Olympics. Makes the time go by quicker. Thx again.

Have they kept up with your blood sugar levels with the steroids? Have they checked for an pre-embolism or swelling due to stretching or tearing? have you had another esop?

Are you allergic to anything? are you retaining noticeable amounts of Water and also, keep using your breathing gadget they gave you, and if you are coughing from your lungs, bring it to their attention ASAP...

Sorry for what you are experiencing. it gets better. Good luck, God bless, and green energy headed your way!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
